New times to report.. Stock 6 port.... street tires 14.2 @ 98

1988 SE stripped DOWN...

Elysian 12-14-03 01:06 AM

my 87 Turbo II pulled 14.5 at 99.49 mph at the texas motorplex in ennis when i drove home after i got the car.. the thing had 2.5" catback exhaust, a bonez high flow cat, a 2.5" downpipe, and a boost controller pushing 11 psi, and the k&n filter in the stock air box...
the rx7 i own currently, an 88, pulled 12.4 at 121 mph with the previous owner, which was witnessed by myself and many friends... the idiot pulled the vacuum line off the wastegate and pushed full boost out that t3/t4 hybrid its got... i know when i drove the car before the motor went, in 4th gear it hit 22 psi in the intercooler piping.... so 22 pounds of boost on stock ecu and the nly fuel upgrades were the warlboro fuel pump and 720 cc secondaries... motor is being built now with a street port and 93 rotors, and will hopefully prove more reliable for me than it was for the previous owner... and hopefully faster, the next step is a fluidyne aluminum radiator and a haltech ecu... btw the 12.4 at 121 was on 205/60R16 all weather tires... so hopefully with some better tires and the new motor i can hit lower 12's or break 11's... i also put my stage 4 bonez clutch in and my 12 lb billet aluminum flywheel(7 lb + 5 lb counterweight)... the car also has a S5 rear end and transmission, and S5 exhaust manifold, and both upper and lower part of the intake manifold are ported

At the Los Angeles County Raceway

Something cant be running right, 16.6? Not trying to down you, but something has got to be wrong? Does your car run good to you? How many times have you run at the track?

knightkarr 12-16-03 08:19 PM

only one night. it was my first time running. The car feels real good. How fast should s4 run stock?

813KR$ 12-17-03 08:23 AM

Iam not sure about S4, but I had a stock port 1st gen 12a with headers and a non tuned non rotary Holley 600 and ran 15.6? I have not run 1/4 miles very much, I run 1/8 miles more often(9.5) I figured TII, shit should be better than my time?

What RPM did you launch at? I launch at 4500-5000. I think you will get alot better times with more track time!

knightkarr 12-17-03 01:26 PM

shit, you guys are making me a bit worried. I launched around 3k-3500 rpm.
I had read in C&D that the 1/4 time for the 2nd gen was 14.9, but i figured it was for the s5 or bs.

Thanks

You still have your cats on(I will assume yes, since you are in cali)? If they are original they are probably clogged? That would be the first thing I would check.

Just practice some more and launch a little higher(in the rpms) unless you feel like you are launching good enough?

knightkarr 12-19-03 03:18 AM

well, i've only been to the drags once. Maybe once i get practice, i can drop .4 secs off that would drop me to a 15.7, and it's not bad for stock, don't you think?

LACR is horrible

That being said, you should still be faster. If you're all stock it wouldn't surprise me if your cats were clogged. I know you're in california but at the least get rid of your pre cat with a 2.5'' dp. into the stock cat.

knightkarr 12-20-03 03:15 AM

Wouldn't that kill my chance of passing smog? Or if i do that, would i have to get an aftermarket, freeflowing cat?

Carlos

813KR$ 12-22-03 09:09 AM

Thats what I would do first, get a big free flowing cat! Since you have to pass smog, being in cali? That SUCKS ! ! ! I dont know much about 2nd gens, but I would think you should easily get what C&D says it should get?

jacobcartmill 12-24-03 01:45 AM

yes you should be atleast running mid-low 15's stock. i ran a 15.5@88 and my car was nonturbo...

The t2 has 2 cats...the precat and the main cat. If you replace the precat with a 2.5'' dp that goes into the main cat you'll still have one cat on the car, and even if a CHP checks under the car he'll see the main cat and I think you'd be covered. When it comes time for inspection just replace the 2.5'' dp with your stock pre cat and you're good to go.

knightkarr 12-25-03 06:49 PM

how often do you guys go to the drags? It seems that you guys didn't get 15's on your first day.

Carlos

gsracer 12-25-03 07:52 PM

never went all stock, a s4 turbo should pull low 15's and maybe dip into the 14's all stock on an average day at sea level

Think its time to unstick this and tell the newbies to search again.

razorback 12-28-03 12:44 PM

damn it i really want to get my car to the track after i get it tuned..im really curious to see what it runs with my mods..

813KR$ 12-30-03 09:15 AM

My first time at the 1/4 with a stock port 12a was in the 15's.
