So bringing back an old thread....
Not many people seem to go with the BNR. Reason why I did was to run airpump and look relatively stock. I will be able to switch between stock ecu and adaptronic plug and play at whim.
I am going with an S5 turbo Stage three. BNR's new S3 turbo now has a complete new CHRA machine to fit the stock S5 manifold. No clipping or the turbine wheel. I hope that the new upgrade acutator and WG porting is adequate cause I read a few people were unhappy with the creep/control etc.
It will be interesting to see how it performs in comparision to my Turbonetics T04B 60-1 turbo. I am hoping for better boost response for sure. (Henze going with a stage 3 instead of a 4).
Will post dyno and boost response once i get them.
It certainly isn't a cheap why of getting a turbo as aftermarket turbos are relatively cheap for performance compared to shipping and modifing an older turbo.

Sure. full 2.5 racing beat , haltech sprint re, 720/1600, aeromotive 340 fuel pump, stainless braided fuel lines , aeromotive fpr, front mount intercooler, bnr stage 3 with adjustable wastegate, tial q bov, koyo radiator, aem ignition coils. etc
There will be a a almost identical dyno from another guy next week just to compare same turbos.

I missed this post for some reason. The why they did it in the past was just replace the cold side and clip the hot side. Now its a complete new chra inserted in a machined S5 housing. Details can be found on BNR's face book page. I forgot what this turbo is equivalent to.
So I got my BNR turbo on tuesday. First impressions is that its was packed very well and its essentially a brand new turbo. I like the BNR logo etched in the brackets holding the CHRA in the hot side. Pretty trick. I can't wait to try it out and compare it to my Turbonetics 60-1 turbo that I ran previously

This new BNR Stage 3 looks like a REALLY good balance of compressor to exhaust side for the RX-7 at this 12psi boost level.
12psi in my opinion is great boost for the streets where you can get crap gas or many other factors can sneak in because you are driving the car all the time instead of checking this and that constantly.
My P-trim Stage 4 made 8hp less at 12psi for instance with the same spool and a lot more into trying to optimize intake/exhaust.
I would be interested to see how the new Stage 3 responds to more boost. I made incredible gains with the P trim Stage 4 (342rwhp @ 12psi and 384rwhp @ 14psi).
Its probably going to be like the GT35R with GT exhaust wheel VS P trim exhaust wheel. High boost might favor the P trim wheel and more moderate boost the GT wheel.

I assume this turbo is good for up to 20psi?

The 60-1 compressor wheel is fine to 20psi, but its real awesomeness for the rotary is the high flow it achieves at relatively low pressure ratios (compared to the aero on new wheels).
I didn't get a full tune at 16psi with my Stage 4, but the trending looked like though it was 40hp gain from 12psi to 14psi it would only be a 30hp gain from 14psi to 16psi.
Yes, it will be fine at 20psi on race fuel, but are going to max out the 60-1 compressor at around 450rwhp on a rotary... if you don't max out turbo exhaust side flow well before that.
If someone asked me what the Stage 3 was good for I would say its a great turbo for 300-350rwhp on a rotary.

the (old)stage 3 should easily be capable of at least 350whp(already been done), finished a 6 port s4 conversion and it did 332whp at just shy of 13psi, but the high compression limited the result and the n/a tranny is probably under a bit of strain as well so that's where i/we stopped. so the new one should do better than 350whp with less strain i would think.

BNR Stage 3 turbos are good for ~ 22 lbs. I obtained 432 rwhp after a heat soaked 40 pulls on 18 lbs & 93 octane + water/meth. They have another 40 - 50 rwhp in them w/more boost/higher octane. I just use the car around town so I don't run race gas all the time so I keep it at 18lbs....its got plenty of power.

I was looking at the BNR page for FC turbo and prices seemed to have gone up. Though its now saying things like "All new center housing rotating assembly", "GT30 turbine wheel upgrade", "50 trim T04E compressor wheel", and "BNR T04B Compressor housing package". It basically sounds like he making a new turbo out of a mix/match of different parts that still work on the original hotside house. Anyone here used one of the new ones or seen the results of one in action?
