1/4 mile time.

I went to the drag strip last night. I was having a real hard time with my launches. I would either spin like crazy or bog out. My mods are stage three street port rx7store, 3.5in DP, 3.0in MP, 2.5in greddy catback, t51r single, hks twin power, 1680 secondaries 850 primaries, greddy race plugs, kazz diff, tuned for 110oct and 20 lbs of boost by Steve Kahn.

I was running on a set of kumho ecstra 245 45 tires so very little traction. I spun through 3rd. plus that was the second time at the track and the last time was with 8lbs of boost. so my driving will improve I hope LOL. my clutch is also not strong enough for this horse power and is slipping its a act streetstrip. I did notice that everyone there was having a real hard time catching traction. there were 2 wrecks and one of my good friends drives a rail car and he made one pass and wouldn’t run no more. the track was slick for some reason. I think with some slicks and a damn good driver it could be in the low 11s. what do you guys think?

I think mid 11's but I'd go with drag radials, I wouldn't bother with slicks. The new Mickey Thompson DR's are every bit as sticky and they're legal on the street too. If you're spinning on some passes and bogging on others, record the RPM of each and launch somewhere in the middle. Changing tires and air pressure will force you to do this again as well to find a good launch point.

You may end up getting some wheelhop issues with a stickier tire. Have you done anything to the suspension as far as that goes? I'm still on stock suspension and even my Kumho Ecsta's hop like crazy, but then I put a V8 in mine so my powerband hits a lot different.

This is my first FD and I haven't researched the "drag launch kit" I've seen advertised. Any idea if it's any good? I know my stock stuff isn't going to cut it, but I'm not sure if all stock suspension does this or only ones that are worn out.

with that turbo you should be in the 11's even without slicks. was that run on 20psi? i bet if you get a wideband that will help out alot!

how are you hood temperatures with that turbo!

ya i have stock suspension. I dont see alot of wheel hop. On that pass it would have been faster if i would not have grinded going into 4th. the syncro is going out. my other pase was 12.6 at 121. my 330 ft was a 6.88 i was spining like crazy.

for running 20 lbs/110 octane... You're pretty slow. Did Steve tune your car on 110 octane? Your mph shows everything, even if traction was an issue, your mph should tell your hp.

That 330 is bad...... my 330 was 4.683 and I only trap 122 @ 11.303 et.

Not trying to sound like a jackleg but something doesn't add up.

yes Steve did tune the car for 110. I do have a wideband. I do believe it is a lot faster then what I am driving it. I just can keep it from going crazy in first and second. on the run that I ran the 12.4 I bogged out so I wouldn’t spin right off the line then got boost started spinning shifted into second still spinning then I shifted third and the tires caught and I was really bogged out like 2500 rpms boost don’t come until 4k. My 330 time will be a lot faster if I can just learn my starts and get some traction. With a good drive the car will run low 11 I know.

its all in the driver and I am not use to 20psi. I just cant control 1st and 2.

hehe, thats the key! A good driver will put down the most hp possible without overpowering the tires...in a perfect world, blah, blah, blah...
All you have to do is feather the pedal. Sounds easier than it is!
As for suspension work, it does help. I have what sometimes is advertised as the launch kit(solid diff mount bushings) and most of the bushings, it virtually eliminated most if not all wheel hop. I can dump the clutch at any rpm and spin the rears without a hint of wheel hop! Very satisfied with it!!!!!
