guys!

trying to understand something...

the higher the offset - the farther the wheel will stick out? or vice versa?

my understanding is the more inward the wheel will be with a lower offset? am i right on this?

i do hope it looks good =) now all i need to do is decide what color to paint the car. im thinking black.

No. The higher the offset, the more outward the MOUNTING POINT of the wheel is compared to the rim. This causes the entire wheel to be more INWARD compared to a wheel with a lower offset (closer to center). Negative offsets have the opposite effect, of course.

can also lead to popping the bead loose and then the tire falls off. nah, i don't see a problem with that.

Never had a problem with a tire rolling off a wheel and I've been SCCA active for over a decade, nor have I ever seen that happen. If you have tires rolling off, the tire installer should be questioned.

2nd: if so, whats the largest tire that can be run, and will 215/40R18 work fine? thx!

I think that +42 offset might be to close for the front. It might work with a 215, if thats what you want to do....

anyone?

Isn't +42 getting too close to the shock? If you run zero camber it may be ok, but the point of aftermarket wheels is lighter, wider, and allows for more adjustability of suspension.

stick with + 35 front and back.

Jesus this thread is getting huge.

So here's my question

87 Turbo II with Tein RA coilovers.

I want to run 245's up front an 275 in the rear.
Looking at getting 17" Volk Gram Light 57S rims.

They have :

7.5" +40
8.5" +40
9.5" +38

So here is the issue. a 245 on a 7.5 is streching the tire a bit, likewise a 275 on a 8.5, however I'm not sure if a 8.5 +40 with 245 up front will work, with a 9.5 +38 on a 275 in the rear.

Keep in mind the car has coilovers, and will be pretty aggesivly cambered for some track days.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks

-Brian

DK: Not a chance up front...I have 17 x 9 +35mm up front with 235-45's and its tight...You'll never get them to fit wth +40...maybe a +32 or +30, but they'll stick out to far...The 275's will be fine

Yeah it's too bad Volk doesn't make these in as many widths as they do the TE-37.

Think 235/45/17x8.5 +40 would fit with a bit of fender rolling in the front? If you've got 9" wide with +35 id think that 8.5 with +40 would be pretty close as well.

So you think the 9.5 would fit in the rear?

245's will fit on a 7.5" with very little fuss - I wouldn't worry too much.
I don't think that combo will fit up front - if it does, it'll be very tight.  I wouldn't want to guarantee it myself.

The rears would too tucked in also.

I would look for another model of rim with better offset options for your needs!

I have a 17 x 9.5 in the back w/ 275.... fits great...

I would never run a 245 on a 7.5 but to each there own. That belongs on a 8" wheel...

bkapold@aol.com: 9.5 in the rear at what offset?

RETed: I like the rims I'd get TE-37s if they weren't twice the price per rim.

I may try the 8.5" up front, call it a test and if they don't fit find something creative to do with them.

I have a stong feeling I'll be going 7.5 up front.

pretty big difference 2" front to rear that way, but oh well.

For your referrence:

I just bought two RPF1 17 x 8.5" for the front. I wanted to run 1 deg Neg. up front and I couldn't do that with the 17 x 9's on Tein RA's...what a drag! So I now have a 235 -40 on the 17 x 8.5's...

im kind of in a hurry to buy rims and im at school so i dont have time to read the entire thread. Im looking at getting 5zigen FN01r-c's. I want to run 17x8 all the way around with 225 maybe 235's. I have a question about the offsets. i have the option of getting a 25mm offset or a 35 mm offset, which would give me the best fitment? could i run a 35 in front and a 25 in back? thanks very much -alex

HELP ! I have an 86 base 4-lug and the wheels that I just got are 16x7.5. The person I bought them from said they were 16x7 but when I looked on the back of the wheel it says 16x7.5. I'm putting 205/55/16 on them - is everything still going to work, or do I need a wider tire? And is it too wide for the wheel well? Thanks.

( From 2 posts up ). I'm guessing that they will work, and I should add they're 40mm offset.

From an earlier post. . .

RETed and wheel guys: ) I really did have a OZ 17 x 8 +40mm offset w/ 225 up front....It was tight though. If you were to run a 215 it would be MUCH better...The 225 was to tight for my driving style (SCCA) but it did work....[QUOTE]
