well i dont have to go 285 wide. its just i have seen my fathers set up on his 3rd gen. looks very nice. he has a 285 wide tire. but 275 will do just fine. even a 265 would be good. i think.

Will 16x8 +38mm offset w/ 225/50/16 all around fit without rubbing or extending past the fenderwall? Will it require a spacer as well?

hell no. my stock rims, 16x7 +40, barely make it with 225's. almost rubbing the strut. i suggest a 25-30mm offset. and the 30 is cutting it close.

I can't see that combo fitting up front.
Some people have claimed an 8" with +35 will fit with a 225 wide tire, but you're 3mm inward on top of that.

What if I swapped to 16x7 +38mm w/ 225/50/16? The offset is nearly identical, but what about rubbing w/ the 225's.

I have a chance to grab a set of BBS RX 16x8 for $400, thats why I was curious. If not I can always get the 16x7 knock-offs that look like BBS RX for the same price.

Before the new Enkei's I now have, I "had" OZ Superlegarra's 17 x 8 +40mm and ran a 225 up front and it just cleared.... so a 38mm offset would give you 2mm clearance....Just a thought

RETed and wheel guys: ) I really did have a OZ 17 x 8 +40mm offset w/ 225 up front....It was tight though. If you were to run a 215 it would be MUCH better...The 225 was to tight for my driving style (SCCA) but it did work....

Yeah, just when you think certain combination work/does not work, there are always exceptions.

The numbers and recommendations I give are just guidelines.  I don't like to recommend really tight recommendations, but you cannot predict how all tires manufacturers are going to be built (i.e. sidewall profiles).  Thus, the numbers and specs I recommend are on the safer side, and to me, it's easier to roll your fenders rather than take the risk of hitting something on the inside.

My situation for test fitting all the offsets on my car was a great experience...As I said before, I got sick of certain wheel companies telling me what will fit and what won't, and I got frusterated because I knew what would work, so when I called Enkei TX, they said to visit a local discount tire (which we have here) and they'll work with me.....They ordred every size wheel that came in the RPF1's and we test fit all of them..I still wish I could have landed that other 17 x10.....That would be some brag'n rights with the FDer's heehee.
I'm good friends with Kevin Wyum of ASP racing (FD tuner) and he has these CCW 17 x11 w/ 315 on the back of his FD ....yaaaaaa! and since then I wanted fat wheels...

I think its safe to say here that on most front applications a 38 +mm offset is the "safe" limit for the inside not touching w/ 225 tire... Ted???

the pics show it fits pretty well. i'm just wondering if such a huge stagger in tire width(245r/205f) would adversely affect the handling.

jetfire, I PMed that guy about those Watanabes and he said he had to run -2 degrees of camber in order to clear the fender. I wouldn't recommend doing so because that will eat your tires out pretty quickly. If you're not a serious racer or a drifter, then you have no use whatsoever for that kind of camber. It would just be waste of tires, and will cost you a lot of money by having to replace front tires very often in long run.

BTW... I'm getting Racing Hart C2s 17X8 +40mm all around... I'll try to see if it fits well and post some pics when they get here.

actually, i'm probably gonna buy them BECAUSE of that. i already run 1.75 camber in the front. i autoX and drift alot so it doesnt bother me so much. i have the suspension to adjust all that anyway. i was more worried about the skinny 205s on an 8" wheel and everyday performance w/ such a staggered setup. when i drift, i swap out the rears anyway so it wont matter for that.
i know ALL about going through tires quickly due to neg camber a necessary sacrifice for handling performance.

I would still try and keep it around +35 at the most, but whatever works!

Running a slight spacer with a +38 (or even a +40) is not a big problem anyways, so you got my go-ahead to buy those rims.

As a side note, I checked out a guy who was running some R32 Skyline GT-R rims which are like 16" x 8" +27 (offset I think), but he's running a 195 wide tire on those things!  I just kinda shook my head...

I test fit a set of 17x8's with a 40mm offset and 215-40-17 dunlop tires a couple of weeks ago an they fit better than my stock s5 t2 wheels since they have 225-60 tires (way too tall & wide) . The only problem is they look tiny compared to the stock wheels because of the tire differance. I feel though that the 215-40-17's will stick 100% better than even a 225-50-16 due to the sidewall height and thickness. Tire roll sucks. But that's just what ive discovered recently, and thought i'd add.

A 225-45 up front on a +40 wheel is kinda tight...I had that combo as I stated... It worked, but a 38 or 35 would be better... I guess if your going to run a +40 I would recommend a 215 up front to be safe...

what is the point of 17 inch wheel when you can only fit a 215 tire on? you can fit a 225 wheel on a stock TII rim and it's free.

Just to restate what I've already said. I have 225/45 on my TII rims and they barely clear the strut. SO, a 16x8 with 40mm will not fit without a spacer. 17x8 maybe but for sure a 16x8 won't fit. I'm going to try to get some 17x8's in front with a 35-40mm offset so that it looks right with the fender. I want the tire to be just inside from flush. I'm thinking the same offset for the rear but with 17x9's.
