Will 17X8.5 front and 17X9.5 rear fit?

Hey all,

Will these wheels fit on a FD with stock R1 shocks and TEIN lowering springs? BTW the offset is +40.

Thanks,

Matthew Walsh

Probably not going to work unless you roll the fenders and or use a 235 or so tire. Here's the S-Tech with a 17x9, +43 and a 255 size tire:

Rub city... Fenders are being rolled tomorrow. The H-Tech would probably be fine since they aren't as low as the S-Tech.

The fronts are only 8.5" do you think that will make a differece or should I still roll the fenders? I don't mind going to a smaller tire. All though it kinda defeats the purpose of going to a wider wheel. Thanks for you help Mahjik.

SkEltAh: For reference, I had 17x8.5 Fikse FM/5s, +37 up front w/ 245/40/17 tires, H&R Sport Springs, and NO rubbing. You should be OK if the spring rates on those S-Techs aren't too soft.

The S-Tech drop is at least 1.5" in the front. That's a lot!

If you go with something like the H&R Springs, RSR or even the Tein H-Tech springs, you should be able to avoid rubbing problems without needing to roll your fenders.

I have 8.5x17 and 9.5x17 wheels, all +40. They fit fine.

The S-Tech spring rates are F-436 R-324. However, the drop is so low, the very top of my front tires are actually above the fender lip. 436 is fairly stiff (not coilover stiff though) but with the S-Tech being that low, it only takes about a 2-3cm movement to rub the interior fender with the outter portion of the upper tire.

I have 8x17 +32 225/45 or 245/40 and 9x17 +38 255/40 wheels, all +40. They also fit fine. You should not have problem unless really molesting one corner of the car up a nasty driveway ramp.

First you say +32 and +38 offset, then you say +40. Which is it? Also, is your car lowered 1.5"? It makes a world of difference. My car was lowered 1.5" up front and rubbed with the STOCK wheels and tires.

I have 18" rims(maintained similar diameter to stock) on the car now and I still have about 1" of clearance between the top of the tire and the fender. So unless the springs sag a lot, I doubt they'll get to this point.

They are 5Zigen Typhoons. Before anyone says anything, I could care less how much they weigh/costs. I like the look of them and I use the stock rims for the track.

So you already have 18" rims on the car now with the Tein S-Tech springs?

I think the wheels look sick Mahjik... street rims should be cheap unless your state doesnt have any potholes.

What tire width are you running?

Offset and tire width as well as the lowering of the car will determine if you'll rub or not.

You might not be rubbing now, but depending on your new offset and tire size, you might.

Sorry.
I should be more careful when I cut and paste.
32 an 38 is correct. The +40 comes from Max Cooper.
Also, my car is lowered but not slammed.

Cheers.

I have 17X8 ET 38 235/45/17 and 17X9.5 ET 42 265/40/17 with racing beat springs.

This setup hits wheel well lining and fender lips (have not yet had the fender rolled)

Will switching to H&R really kill the ride and help avoid rubbing?

Bill

With 235's up front, the H&R Springs should stop the rubbing you are getting now. However, that offset it still kind out out there.

I've never used H&R Springs, but they are progressive so the day to day driving should be a good ride (much better than the Racing Beats). I believe SleepR1 is using them and he also tracks his car.

Just FYI, here's how much wider the 255/40/17's are over the 245's for the stock rims.

245 VictoRacers
255 Yokohama's

Rolling the front fender is a good idea (i'd almost say a must) on any lowered FD, especially w/ aftermarket wheels... some rubbing of the liner is just a fact of life, but you don't wanna pull those lips and buy yourself a paintjob.

Those offsets will work fine. I'm running an 18x9 +42 up front w/ 255/35, and it fits well.
