Here is why you all FD owners should buy Widefoot Sway Bar Mounts.


This is the front frame rail underside where the sway bar mounts mount to the car. This picture is of the longest crack of the bunch but they are all cracked and they are all greater than 1".

This is the damage caused by the stock sway bar mounts rocking side-to-side. This particular car has around 200k on the chassis with about 2 seasons worth of autocrossing on R compound tires.

So to everyone out there with a FD, buy the damn Widefoot mounts before this happens. Besides, the mounts look damn sexy.

I will be documenting progress on the repairs in the following month or two. Stay tuned.

Yes, those are pretty bad cracks - glad you found them before
anything ripped loose!

And thanks for the kind words on my mounts, it's really appreciated.
I'm biased (no kidding), but I really do think that *all* FD's should
have some sort of protection from the crack-inducing design of the
stock mounts, whether it's my Widefoot mounts, or the Racing Beat
brace. I want to caution those who just get stronger "stock type"
mounts that you may not really be fixing the issue, so you still should
remove the mounts every so often to check the frame.

I'm interested in running another group buy for the new generation
of billet Widefoot mounts, as the last one was over 1.5 years ago.
I need to get the "O-K" of the powers that be to do that here, I'll

I purchased David's mounts in the last GB he referenced....one of my stock sway bar mounts had become bent AGAIN in less than 3 years. Just tracking the car on street tires.

 

I had the Mazdcomp but when I saw the Widefoot version, I switched to those.

I would like the wide pedal if you start producing stuff again. Also, could you make the pedal as well as the adapter? It's an option on the JDM cars for the metal gas pedal. Could you incorporate the two together?

Ah, one of my favorite types of people - serial buyers!



I've had the pedal adapters in stock all along, it's my dang fault for
not having a way of advertising my stuff. I've been saying that WRC
should have a website for ages, but I manage to find other things to
do...

I could make the complete assembly, but have worried that the cost
would be too high, at least for most people. Much as I love the RX-7,
most of the owners aren't as free with their cash as the Porsche or
Ferrari crowd. But if you really want one, PM me and we'll talk...

I recently found cracks underneath my M2 sway bar mounts almost identical to the crack Fritz posted. So what now? The only thing I can think of is to weld a plate over the location where the sway bar mounts are bolted to the frame. What is everyone doing to correct this problem once a crack is found? Fritz, what are your plans to correct this?

It's Fitz, not Fritz (that's someone else)

Mr. Breslau of Widefoot recommends a multistep process for shoring this up. I will be posting pictures of the process here. It involves end drilling the cracks, v grinding them and welding them up, grinding that flat, then welding a 1/16 steel plate over the area. That along with using mounts that stop the lateral rocking (Widefoot mounts) should solve the cracking problem.

It's "David", I'm not old enough to be "Mr." yet (well, I am, but I don't
like to admit it! ).

If you document your repair, that should wind up "stickied" somewhere, as it'll
be useful to anyone else who has a cracked frame.

Josh, just repairing the cracked area isn't enough, you should add a brace to
prevent future damage. I recommend my mounts (if you'd had them early on,
the frame wouldn't have cracked), but other vendors have solutions that can
work too.

David- At the time (8 years ago), I thought the M2 upgraded mounts were all I needed. Now I see that additional measures are needed to prevent frame cracking. Could you give me price and availability on your mounts? My other option is to go with the racing beat brace.
