When did all the 245/45ZR16s die?

When did all the 245/45ZR16s die?

So I started looking around and am like wtf. There are no street tires in this size! LOL.

Only thing I keep coming across are competition. As fun as I'd like to drive around in competition tires on the street with g forces sucking my brains out at every corner, the street tires would be a lil cheaper.

That's been my biggest fear. When things just can't be purchased anymore when things break on the FD....

I share the same fear, thus why I have been replacing things that are not broken...yet...


245/45/16's have been going away for the last 2-3 years actually. Because of this I am moving up to 18's.

16" tires and wheels in general are an endangered species. Just like 13" and 14" wheels were a decade ago. I'm getting old...

That is also why the 245/40-17 tire size is now so popular. Too bad that also means you need a new set of rims as well.

You won't be losing anything over the old 245/45-16 if you go with the new crop of 225/50-16.

I have the bargain priced Hankook RS-3 which would be good also for track lapping as they can take some heat. They are scary like slicks on the first turn of the day though- need some heat. I found by accident they seem to have best traction at 40psi for me.

Another great option would be the Dunlop Star Spec. They have more stick when cold, but can't take as much punishment.

Then you have the Kumho XS- another great tire at bargain price.

Bridgestone RE-11 will cost more, but another great tire.

As I said you won't miss any of the old 245/45-16 if you try this new crop of 225/50-16. Much better tires.

the new gen of "near" r-comp tires are incredible


if you are absolutely stuck on 245/45/16, have a look into the FK452

I believe they are still available in that size


it is much more of a street tire though. will not handle high temp track abuse too well
