Which wheels for $1000?

I am gonna get a set of 17s for the summer, and wanted to know what wheels I should get. I am a little constrained budget wise, so I am limited to $1000 for the wheels plus about 5-600 for tires.

I kinda like the RPMII but I was wondering what other people liked.

Your budget is too low to get quality wheels, but is really too low for 17" tires.

In that price range, I would be seriously looking at the 5zigen FN-01RC or even better, trying to pick up a set of good wheels used.

The Enkei RPM2s don't have the correct offsets to be used with the FD.

I can get AVS ES100s for that price. What tires would you recomend. The other tires I would like would be Goodyear F1 G3s but they are closer to 800 for a set.

For your budget, I would honestly try to find a good set of quality used wheels. I just picked up a set of Enkei RP-01s (18x8.5 and 18x9.5) with Toyo T1-S tires for under $1200. The tires have ~3000 miles on them and look brand new, the wheels are in good shape, with only one small curb rash and one gouge in the paint.

You would have to spend significantly over $2000 on new wheels/tires to equal that package.

You might get lucky can find a deal like this:

However, I agree with rynberg. For decent 17" rims, $1000 just ain't going to cut it unless you get a used set.

I'm a cheap bastard too. I've been looking for some rims myself but the good ones are going to run $400 or so per rim new. Add in tires and you are talking some change. Either way until you can afford to put more money into it or keep checking the forsale section for great deals. There have been some great buys going on in there the last few months.

I was thinking that might find something used. I don;t want to dig into my rebuild money to mod the car so I will just have to hunt for a good deal.

rynburg,
I'm surprised you said the rpm2's don't have enough offset. I didn't hear of rubbing issues from seabass on his sale. Can you (or anyone) elaborate? Considering 17x9, 40 offset. Tires somewhere between 235 to 255 up front.

otherwise I was going to show seabass's auction as an example of a good budget sale. guess there are issues?

17x9 +40 offset is not enough offset up front. If you are lowered at all, you will most certainly catch the front fender lip entering steep driveways or while hitting bumps while cornering.

I have 8.5 +45 offset up front with 235s and I can tell you that there is not much more room to the outside. A 17x9 +40 would stick out at least 11mm more (almost 1/2").

Do I interperet that to mean you don't think Racing Sparco's 17.2 lbs 17x9 rims are decent for $250 each?

You can get +45 offset in the 17X8 for up front. Would those rub with 245

That's a good offset, but the wheel's on the skinny side. You can't run 245/40 17s on a 8" wide wheel, minimum is 8.5". Your tire size for that wheel would be 235/45 17.

255/40 or 265/40 would be best.

CSM I can try to help you out with your budget. Drop me an e-mail at TrickDOut@bellsouth.net. Don't worry, I know a few rims, that could possibly fit your vehicle.
