Wheel hop

What is the common cure for violent wheel hop for an FD3? I figure a spring/shock combo will help quite a bit, then without being familiar with the cars maybe some polyurethane bushings and tranny mount? Drag launching the car with sticky tires, stage 3 clutch + stock rear suspension just doesn't go over very well

Thanks
Chuck

Bushings are the biggest culprit, NOT springs or shocks.

Getting aftermarket linkages help too -

You're kidding right.... 650 bucks for a set of bushings? I'm a home grown muscle car boy... and I'm sorry to say, but the aftermarket really takes advantage of import tuners.....
Those linkages look nice btw. I've got that same style setup on my 97 Camaro SS and love the spherical bushings. I'm sure those would shlot home nicely on an FD3

I would consider getting upgraded trailing arms from either M2 performance or Pettit Racing. I have the M2's and they really cut down on the wheel hop, good luck!!

I have the Pettit street launch kit. No hop whatsoever and I'm putting out (or should be) about max hp for stock twins.

Yes, $650 for a set of bushings, both front and rear suspension, and the differential mount. Pettit charges nearly as much for their rear drag launch kit alone, and the Mazdaspeed bushings are several hundred dollars more expensive. There is nothing available that is less expensive.

If you think $650 is expensive, perhaps you should price coil-over sets or front brake kits for the FD... $650 for 18 precision machined Nylon 6-6 bushings, which will improve handling and road feedback more than any set of coil-overs costing 3-4 times as much. I'll bet you wouldn't think twice about paying $300 or more for a 3 foot long piece of 3" stainless steel pipe with one bend in it and a couple flanges welded on the end... ever wonder why downpipes are so damn expensive?

Everything costs proportionately more when volume is lower, and that's not limited to the import market. You may be jaded by low prices for Mustang or Camaro parts, but the prices are low because there are hundreds of thousands of them on the road and volume purchasing and manufacturing drops the price. Forget pricing brake kits and coil-overs for FDs, maybe you should go price mods for a Viper...
