Bridgestone RE-070 in 225/45/17.

Amazing tires, when they die they'll have lasted longer/more miles than my previous two sets of tires put together (Falken FK-451 and Kumho SPT, both with about double the wear rating). Not only that but they perform better and handle the track use better. They're OE on the previous Subaru STI, the S2000 CR and the new GTR. All in all a fantastic tire.

The downsides are severely limited size selection, weight (my 225/45/17's are listed at 27lbs vs 24-25 typical for the competition) and the price, but in the end they'll last long enough to more than make up for the price difference.

I checked Consumer Reports out of curiosity and their handling ratings seem to line up with what's mentioned here. Out of those mentioned the Potenza rated best (4th on CR's list) and they tend to keep their grip longer even after wearing out a bit (which isn't reflected in the Consumer Reports ratings). FWIW their top rated tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 was 8th on the list but it was also one of their 6 "quick picks". Maybe from it's high tread life or maybe it's cheap, I dunno. This is among high performance tires. The tires people didn't like were about 1/3 the way from the bottom of the list.

Consumer Reports' top rated performance all season tire is the Dunlop SP Sport 5000. They rate wet, dry & ice handling & braking, noise, tread life and ride. Potenza RE950 was rated 6th on their list, but it still made a "quick pick" and it maintains its handling characteristics longer (which isn't reflected in the CR ratings). It handled slightly better than the Dunlop in the wet & dry; where it got dinged was ice/snow, ride, noise and treadlife.

Here are all the top CR performance all season tires w/ ratings:
Dunlop SP Sport 5000 85
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S 83
Falken Ziex ZE 512 83
Continental ContiProContact 81
Michelin Pilot XGT H4 81
Bridgestone Potenza RE950 80

As for me, I run the P.O.'s tires and since they're wearing out now I'll be upgrading to cheap tires with a decent enough rating. They came with my next set of rims and I have a small budget. :P

I'm using PS2's. They have amazing grip/traction in both dry and wet conditions. The Nitto NT-05 coming out is probably going to be an excellent ultra-high performance tire, similar to the R1R, Azenis, etc.
