I have a 88 T2 with complete stock suspension, if I get 2 of the gram light 57pros for the rear in a 17X8 with a +30 offset, is my rim or tire going to rub? thanks guys for the replies and help.

ok ted I have another question then. I ordered my rims that are 17x8's all the way around, and I ordered 2 for up front in a +40 offset and the 2 for the rear in a +30 offset. Now I noticed that the lip on my rears is only 2inches. will the fronts have more of a lip then the rears? Because I thought with offsets, the +30's would be 30mm front the center of the rim which would give it more of a lip, and the +40's will be 40mm from the centerline so they should have less of a lip then the rears correct?

I would think the 8" +30 would be a better fit upfront.
You might end up swapping them around.
As for offsets versus lip...yes, in general, the less the offset, the more the lip.
But, the Japan wheels have these things called "hi disc" and "lo disc", which can screw up the lip dimensions rule.
A "hi disc" 8" +30 can have less lip than a "low disc" 8" +40.

I don't know, I don't have my fronts yet. They are suppose to arrive in the states this tuesday. The guy at the tire shop I ordered them from said that they recomend the +40 offset for my car because that is what the stock rims are. And I told them that I didn't want to have to roll my fenders up front or have anything rubbing, so the guy told me to get the +40 just to be safe for fitment issues up front.

I really hope it's not an 8" wide +40 for fronts.

Typically, the +40 will have less lip than the +30.

yes it's a 17x8 +40.....I'm just wondering how it will look with smaller lipped wheels in back, and more of a lip in the fronts....how much difference will their be? I mean my +30's have about a 2inch lip to them...and the +40's will be?

ted, is there anysize tire I could maybe run with the +40's to make them fit in the front? I have nitto neogens on the +30s now....I did notice today I was taking off my old rims, and they are a 16x7 +42 with 225/50 tires on them, and there was just some markings inside the tire from where it had rubbed the strut.....
