Tires for track and street use

What do you guys suggest as the best tire to use as more of a track tire, while still being able to drive on the street from time to time, I'd rather it be more track aggressive, while still being affordable and not to expensive? I was thinking something like BFG's G-force line.

Kumho Ecsta MX's and Falken Azeni's are "ultra-high performance" street tires that work reasonably well on the track. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cups won favor with the Porsche drive to the track crowd, but they are pricier. I don't have any experience with the BFG's.

In addition, any of the DOT-legal R compound tires might work for you, if being legal (but not necessarily safe) on the street is good enough - Toyo Proxes RA-1, Kumho 7100, etc.

Assuming you mean track and not drag strip, the Toyo RA-1 is generally regarded as the most streetable of the R-compound tires.

What is good set for the Drag Strip? And also what's a good set for the Track, road course? That's when I would need to switch but I want to be able to drive the car to and from either with out changeing the wheels there. Thanks for pointing that out rynberg, sorry for not getting specific.

I have the 16" wheels (stock), but run 245/45's, and not the stock size of 225/50. I noted that the MX's don't come in that size...

Now here's the question... is it better to go to 225/50, or find a different tire in 245/45?

245/45/16 gives you the widest footprint for your wheels.

I should have been more specific... what would be a comparable tire in 245/45 size to the Ecsta MX's in 225/50? Because of the bigger footprint of the 245/45, is a "so-so" tire equivalent to a good tire in 225/50?

Dunlop have a new tire called Dunlop super sport race that are a fantastic buy at $130 ish for 18 inch tire at Tire rack.
I,m going to try them next year for track street use myself.

You know, I've been wondering about this, BlackRX7Turbo, for a while. I'm in the need for new tires and really like what I hear about the Ecsta MX's....but the whole size thing is an issue (since I have stock wheels).
