Those of you running a 295 or 11.5'' tire on the rear of an FD, step inside
What does it take to run these tires on the rear, successfully? I've searched and read the results, but everyone says something different. They'll be going on a 17x10 rim, but what offset/back spacing is optimal? Fender roll I'm assuming will be necessary, but does it require coilovers and/or after market trailing arms? Anything else needed?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I hope you are looking at the Kumho XS 295/35 17s. This tire has performed the best amongst all of the ST tires in all of Grassroots Motorsports ST tire tests (at least 140 wear rating).
That said if you are looking at a 295/40 17...good luck fitting the tire. The overall diameter is huge for an FD (probably close to 26 inches). The 295/35 17 Kumho XS is listed at 25.1 in. overall diameter and is recommended for at least a 10 in wheel. The diameter is very close to stock.
I do not know about trailing arms so others will need to chime in there.
Gathering from others experiences 17x10 +38 is an aggressive fitment and will more than likely require fender rolling for the rear. I would look at this as the lowest offset that I would run on a 17x10 in wheel. Keep in mind the side wall combined with fender rolling combined with ride height combined with spring rate/dampening. Because this is a large tire to fit on a 10 in wheel you may want to settle on a more conservative offset if you are concerned.
I hope this helps and make sure to post fitment pictures when you get those tires.

Thanks for the response. It's actually for a 295/45-17 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II I know for a fact that tire height isn't an issue. I took the measurements with the suspension fully compressed and there's plenty of room, plus I know for a fact that people are running 10.5x28 tires with out an issue. My concerns were mainly in regards to inner and outter clearance.

The only person I knew to run that size was Gene Felber, who ran 18x11", +48, w/ a 295/30/18 Pirelli. This required coilovers and trailing arms, plus removal (not rolling) of fender lip and modest lowering. He might could've gotten away with a little more offset, but not much.
