i have no idea what that pink **** is. from the pics the only obvious thing wrong is the dust boot is a bit mangled, which is no big deal at all.

if they are blown you will absolutely know it. the ride will be really bouncy as **** and you will probably see some leaking oil.

If they're blown they'll be bouncy and they might be leaking oil. That pink thing might be the bumpstop.

How old are they? How many miles? It might not be a bad idea to send them back and have them rebuilt anyway, just to keep them in proper working order, as the damping can soften over time from the shim stacks getting weaker, like a suspension spring sagging over time.

Teins feature a rubber boot to protect the piston rod. that's the chrome shaft you see. the boot further keeps grime from getting into and abrading the upper interior seal. your boot failed. many shocks run no boots and seem to get along fine unless you are off roading so it is no big deal.

often when a shock "really" fails the upper hydraulic seal starts leaking and you will clearly see oil on the side of your shock body in addition to sloppy dampening.

it is a really easy deal to remove the shock and replace the boot which is available from Tein. call Tein, ask for Gonzo... 562 861 9161.

simple stuff, good luck.

thanks for the input. the coilovers are about 3yr old. there is no leak the ride is fine. i didn break one of the adjusters on top of the coil. i guess i will just order more rubber boots. the bump stops are all flaking off. i see what happens. kvn
