Suspension Clunking...

I installed my Eibach springs 2 weeks ago and got an alignment the next day. I got the shop to align it to Pettit's street recommendations which were a little out of OEM specs. Over the next week, my suspension developed a terrible clunking sound when I make a turn, go in reverse or take off from a dead stop. The springs are used, but I don't think that would matter. Could I have installed them wrong? Any help would really be great.

Clunking

Just by chance have you checked to ensure your PPF is tight?

Do you still have the stock dampers? I put the Pettit Eibach springs on a while back too, but I didn't notice any noises afterwards that weren't there before.

Where the springs meet the perch there is a thin stock rubber "insulator". When the springs were swapped in they were probably removed and not replaced.

Also, check all suspension components (swaybar mounts, etc.) on a lift and make sure they're all tight.

I don't think that would have an affect on the front suspension...

So your clunking is from the front or the rear?

No, I reinstalled the rubber insulators. I think the upper and lower ball joints may be bad. How can you tell for sure? The alignment shop didn't say anything was bad or worn.

Put the car on jack stands and grab each wheel.

Shake the wheel, it should not move at all, there should be no for-aft movement in the rear at all and if you lock the wheel and leave one corner on the front in the front either.

If there is movement, start shaking individual pieces. I also mean NO movement, if there is a slick tick back and forth, then something needs to be replaced. Shart moving individual parts and see which ones move.

Did you inspect the bump and rebound stops at the top? What kind of condition were the front boots in? The upper mount is integrated and any of those things being bad could cause the noise.

I had alot of suspension noise myself, shaking the tires will give you a ton of info very easily.
