Suggested tire sizes for 17x10 +40 square

Hello all - I'm looking for tire size suggestions for 17x10" +40 off set wheels to be installed on an FD. I was initially thinking 255/40/17 all around, but given the wheels are 10", the tires may not be "square" on the wheel, and therefore thought of 275//40/17 for the rear. Would love to hear some thoughts/suggestions.

Have no specific recs per se, but i like this tire calculator

https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

For performance, vice aesthetics, you'll want a slightly stretched wheel. I have 255s on a 9.5" rim which i think is perfect. So for 10", you may want corresponding 1/2" wider, which would be 265-270mm. Not sure if those are realistic sizes for 17" tires though. 275 would be a little wider, but if it's an available tire width, there you go. Next would be fitting it in the wheel well.

And all that said, actual widths can vary between manufacturers.

Good luck

275/40-17 is too tall a diameter for the front of an FD.

The tire will rub the wheel well when turning and over bumps.

You are limited to 255/40-17

TireRack sells a 275/35-17 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso for a whopping $480./each 😳

was kind of assuming you wanted street tires, same size for Hoosier R tires which are cheaper lol

This is key. I'd look at a 255/40 or a 265/40 if you can find it, the 265 is slightly larger in diameter at .3" more and it will slow the car down though you probably won't "feel" it.

I have 255/40/17 on a square setup and it handles great. But you need to look at the tread width of the specific tire you’re considering. I like my tires with a slight stretch, I feel it is more predictable for me when I’m pushing it and it wants to slide out. My .02
