Very carefully.

j/k....but not really. The caps on my Volk wheels don't screw on or anything. When I get new tires, I take the wheel off of the car and push the center cap out from behind, while watching carefully for cracks. Work your way around it with a screw driver (from behind the wheels) if you can't get it to pop out by pushing on it.

This is correct, at least for my work vsxx wheels. The center cap snaps into place and the only way to get it out is from behind the hub. To access that you obviously need to take the wheel off.

Well, my center cap had three clips that you had to push in from behind (no homo) to release the cap. It is self explantory once you get the wheel off.
