Stock Replacement Shocks

Hey. I put Eibach Pro-Kit Springs on my stock Shocks, and i noticed that they are all leaking. I put it back togetehr of course since i need to drive it but have been planning ever since to replace them. i figured since i would replace them i'd get something a little nicer, but I also want to reuse the springs because I love how the car is sitting and what they did to the ride quality itself. I was just looking for some shocks that could be used with the Springs, so not coilovers.

Any tips, info?

Thanks, Oliver

and these all retain the stock spring seat specs? i figure most likely they do. also, do any include a drop? id like to get shocks that add a 1 or more inch drop to add to the 1 inch drop from the springs

Shocks don't really add lowering, per say. The Koni's do have a 3 setting adjustable perch that will allow some lowering, but it's not all that useful unless you are keeping the stock springs.

Bad idea. If you want that much of a drop (which you don't, believe me), then you will need to look into coilovers.

yea, the drop it has now is pretty sufficient actually, but the leakiness has to go. i was told once that tokico illuminas were pretty close to the stock shocks.

Tokicos are just around the stock shocks in the middle settings. The stiffest setting is definitely stiffer than the stock shocks. They are a good performing shock for the money but I would recommend getting Koni's if you plan to do any track days.

Just FYI,

That's not to say Tokicos aren't trackable. I currently run them and several friends of mine ran them on the track with Ground Control Coilovers as well. However, for me, I didn't have the budget I wanted a few years ago when redoing my suspension.

Now that I do have the budget, there isn't any real justification to change out what I have...

ha aw i know. but **** man stock replacements cost as much if not more than illuminas, so **** it. this has got to be one of the most expensive cars to maintain with oem parts that i'v come across. besides coil pack trans am's. 750 for an oem distributor? **** that!

I agree. In most cases, you can get something just as good or better than OEM at a cheaper price. It just makes sense to get the aftermarket part in those cases (especially in this case as you'll gain some adjustability).

Honestly, as far as the fun (ie. higher performing) cars you can put on a track, the RX-7's (all three gens) are about the cheapest to maintain. It's the only reason I still have mine. Heck, a tiny rear wing for a Lotus Elise is $1300.
