Staggered FD setup (18" front, 19" rear)
Staggered FD setup (18" front, 19" rear)
Hi guys,
I'm looking to run a staggered 18" front and 19" rear setup for my FD. At the moment I have 18,9 and 18,10 K58 and Toyo T1S in 255/35/18 and 275/35/18. I intend on keeping the front setup the same, but want to go with 19" wheels in the rear. I also have HKS springs installed.
The questions I have are:
1- Should I expect rubbing?
2- How would this setup effect my car's overall handling?
3- Would I need to adjust my speedometer?
4- Finally, how safe is it to run this setup and how would it affect its everyday driveability?
Thanks in advance for any input.
Riz

Why?
Anyway, to answer your questions:
1. Not with the correct offset and tire size.
2. Slightly increase oversteer and will reduce suspension precision (assuming wheel is heavier).
3. A 275/30 19 would be same diameter as you have now, which is already affecting the speedo.
4. Safe? You'll be even more likely to damage a wheel on a pothole than with the 18s.

Riz,
Depends on the tire. If you go 19x10, a 275-30-19 or 285-30 will have a similar diameters (275-30 is slighty smaller, 285-30 is slightly larger)to your current setup. The 275-30 and 285-30s have diameters of 25.5" and 25.7", respectively. This is the same as that of a 275-40-17 - a very popular tire on many an FD and smaller diameter than the 275-35 you're currently using (by a smidgen). The affect of the diameter shoudn't affect handling appreciably, but you'll have a pretty short sidewall in the rear (and shorter than your front's). This will result in a harsher ride in the back compared to previously and possibly an enhanced tendency toward oversteer near the limit. If you're using the car for basic or spirited driving, I would't think you'd have a problem.
The speedo error will be a tad smaller than your current setup by a couple of percent.
There may be a weight penalty, but again I doubt you'll notice it.
If you go to a 275-35 in a 19 then you'll gain another inch in diameter. This will likely result in fitment issues (rubbing, etc.).

PS- If you need a home for the rear K58s, let me know

Thanks for the help guys. The reason I'm going with 19" wheels in the rear is because the front and back left wheels were damaged in a minor accident. The insurance company decided to pay me to replace instead of fix the rims, therefore I decided I'd rather change it up a bit and get 19" wheels.
gfelber- If you're insterested in the rear k58s the back right is in great condition and the back left can easily be fixed by kinesis. I'll probably be looking to sell in a lil bit so if you'd like, I can definitely keep you updated. Let me know.

I have a quick wheel question. I am currently running a 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 3pc Enkei Aegis 3pc wheel with a 225 40 front and 275 35 back on a Ebach pro kit with no issues of rubbing. I have had these rims a while and looking for a change.
I am now looking at a 19x8.5 42mm offset and 19x9.5 42mm offset with 245 35 and 275 30, should I have any rubbing issues? Do you suggest a different offset?
Also the Enkei's and tires have less than 500 miles great staggered look anyone interested? Email bcaffey630@aol or call 281-413-9697
