Spring rates

I just wanted to know what you guys are running for spring rates on the FDs. I'm trying to pick a rate for aggressive street driving with regular track events throughout the year. I have the PFS springs now, but dont know what rate they are (i believe they're variable rate springs) so can't really get a feel for what i want. The reason i ask is that i'm going to coilovers and need to decide. I was recommended 8kg/mm front and 6kg/mm rear, but i dont think i'd be happy with that on the track. I was thinking more along the lines of 9kg/mm front with 7kg/mm rear. If you have any experience or advice i'd be happy to hear it, or if you just want to tell me about your current/past setups that'd be great too. Thanks.

Either of those spring combos is very common....now the most important part is to have dampers properly valved for those rates.

Actually i just found out that these coilovers come with 11kg up front and 9kg rear. I may give it a shot or get them to switche em out and step back to 10kg front and 8kg rear. Still undecided.

Do you have to have it specifically valved for that spring even if it has however many settings of adjustment on the damper already? If you need more damper you just stiffen it up, right? Isn't that why almost every coilover comes with different spring options? The damper's already adjustable...but the springs arent...that's why you have to buy new ones but dont have to replace the dampers every time...right?

You can only soften or stiffen to the extent the valving in that damper is capable. That may or may not be good enough when you change springs.

If blue, with two different coil pitches, those are the old PFS "comfort sport" springs. About 1" drop, initial stock rate (5 kg up front), then about 25-30% stiffer when loaded. Great for moderate street use.

That's a great thread, DamonB. That and the other one it links to where howard gives the low down on FD-specific suspension setup. That's what i was looking for. I'll be getting the 10kg front, 8kg rears for sure. Since the damper is valved for a 11kg/9kg combo i should be fine as far as damping is concerned.

Thanks for the info, Kevin. That's good to know. I think they're great springs myself. They've done everything well so far and i wouldn't swap if i hadn't got such a good deal on the coilovers.

Just for the record i went with the 11kg (~600lb/in) front and 9kg (~500lb/in) rears and they feel great. Nice and tight. A little bouncy, but the damping is quite good and never jars even on road seams. I'm glad i didn't go any softer as i feel like i would have sacrificed some track performance.
