Anyone here have experience using the speed bleeder ?

I want to get a set for my 3rd gen, but don't know if these things will leak or not. Any reviews or recommendations? Thanks!

 

I had them on a previous car....they were awesome!

I'll be putting some on my 3rd gen...I just don't know what size yet.

 

I guess the biggest concern would be air leaking around the threads. That's what the coating one those threads is to prevent. Whether or not it works? <shrug>

They don't seem any cheaper than buying a vacuum bleeder and they would be tied to that particular car.

 

i've got them on mine. been on there for years now. i've never had any problems with them. but i've probably only bled the brakes 3 times since i've put them on (it's not a daily driver). it's in need of another fluid replacement, but i've also got a motive power bleeder now . the speed bleeders are very handy if you have to do this by yourself. if you've got a power bleeder or a helper, then you really don't need them. i often have to do this by myself (it's like pulling teeth to get the wife out there to pump the brake pedal a few times for me ), so i've got speed bleeders on all my cars. but i've also got the power bleeder now, too, so it's not too bad.

 

Cool. I think I'll buy a set. And the extra teflon liquid they sell too.

 

I have them on my '90, never had a problem. It is my daily driver. When I installed them, I did not put any coating on the threads; there was a layer of red material on the threads already...

I've got a Motive Power bleeder that attaches to the master cylinder. No pumping of the brake pedal is required. Although I can see how the Speed Bleeders would come in handy at the track if I had forgotten to bring the Motive Power with me to bleed brakes?

 

I wonder if the US spec and '99 Japan spec Type RS brake calipers bleed screws are the same dimensions? I have Type RS calipers, and wondered if the part numbers below would work?

 

Find out if the bleed screw is the same part number.

 

Ahh...you mean compare Mazda factory part numbers for the Japan-spec FD Type RS bleed screw and the FD US spec bleed screw--is that what you mean?

 

Power bleeders work better with stock bleed screws. With the speed bleeders, it has to push past the check valve causing the fluid to just trickle out.

As for speed bleeders leaking, I lost count how many times I've bled the fronts and havn't had an issue yet.

 

Ahh...this is important to know. Sounds like I don't need speed bleeder screws, if I have a Power Bleeder and stock bleed screws Yay!

 

check my username...so if you drive around with the speed bleeders, how do they not leak? (whether through the threads or the bleeder itself?)
