Sizing reassurance question

I've looked everything up, and it seems to be right. I just want to make sure that this size wheel/tire combo will fit. I'm looking at 17x9 with either a +45mm all around or a +45 front/+38 rear. I plan on running 255/40's all around to keep the neutral handling. Will these fit without fender mods, and with the stock R1 suspension. I plan on getting coilovers eventually but I need the tires first. This is for track use, and I just don't wanna roll my fenders if I don't have to right now.

Thanks

That should fit, but the difference is going to be your suspension. My car is lowered and I needed to roll my fenders for 255's on +43 in the front. Running 245's up front will make sure that you don't rub.

I would just roll the fenders and get it over with...

Ok, thanks alot, I'll probably end up rolling the fenders but I just don't wanna mess the paint up and end up having to get it painted now.

If you have someone roll your fenders that knows what they are doing, it shouldn't harm the paint. Just take it to a body shop to have it done. It should cost all of $20-30 for them to do it.

like mahjik said, up front you should be fine with a 17x9 +45 and a 255/40/17.

I'm running SSR in that size with 255/40/17 Kumho MX on stock shocks and H&R springs.

I've run that size on the front and the stock suspension and lowered to 25.5" measured from the ground to the top of the fender w/o any rubbing.
A 9" +38 in the rear will be more flush with the fender, which IMO, looks a little better. But, since you plan on running the same tire size & rim width, it's hardly worth losing the ability to rotate.

Huh? Are you meaning you are using the stock shocks and aftermarket springs?

Oops, sorry for the brain scatter. I was trying to say I've run that size with the stock suspension and also with the car lowered to 25.5" via coilovers. No problems with rubbing in either case.

I have a question also. I just received my set of wheels and now I need tires.
I have:
18 x 8.5 +40 front
18 x 9.5 +42 rear

Looking at the FD Wheel Sizing spreadsheet, it looks like I need:
245/35/18 front
265/30/18 rear

Is this correct? I though that 235/35/18's would be extremely close, and have heard that 235/40/18's rub some.

I have H&R springs with stock shocks. Body is stock.

Proper front tire sizing would be either 235/40 or 245/35 18. Proper rear tire sizing would be 265/35 18.

I guess that I will get 245/35/18's then in front, with the 265/35/18's in back then. Thanks. Planning on ordering some Monday.

Bolt pattern: 5x114.3

As far as putting 265's up front? Can you? Sure. Most likely, you'll have use coilovers though. However, if you are spending the money to put 265's up front without having coilovers, you've got your priorities wrong.

Better would be 255/35 18s up front:

Front: 255/35 on 18x9, +45 to +50 offset
Rear: 285/30 on 18x10, +45 to +50 offset

Those sizes/offsets should fit fine with no fender rolling or aftermarket suspension parts required. Rolling the front fenders with wider tires IS recommended, however.

coilovers are definatel on their way here shortly! as far as which ones, well...i've got a lot to read. but i dont understand how coilovers allow for a larger tire, are they more narrow or something?

You'll have more control over ride height was well as being stiffer (in most cases) to reduce rubbing the fender liners on bumps and more aggressive turns.

Aftermarket coilovers use 2-1/2" diameter springs compared to the stock 4" diameter springs. Coilovers are really only necessary for wheel fitment purposes when attempting to run a 10" wide wheel up front.

As Mahjik pointed out, a primary advantage of coilovers is the ability to control ride height and spring rates.
