Question running same size tires all around on staggered rims?

would there be any issue?

Currently I have 235/40/18 on an 18x8.5 in the front and 265/35/18 on an 18x9.5 in the rear. Found a set of 245/40/18 for cheap, and Im just wondering if:

1. its advisable/possible to run this setup? Ive read you want to keep within 1 inch of the tire width 245 being 9.6.
2. will there be a noticeable performance loss? (apart from the fact that it wont be staggered anymore)

I guess this is a poor mans thread considering on the internet everyone has an infinite supply of money, hence why I couldnt find any previous about it.

Thanks in advance.

Problem as I see it is, your front tire will be significantly taller than the rear, which will look weird and potentially rake the car the wrong way unless you can adjust it otherwise, which might make it look even weirder. That tall front is going to rub too.

wouldnt it be the same size as the back? same sidewall + same wheel diameter = same? Or were you talking about what I have currently with the 40+18 =/= 35+18?

To clarify the question, would running 245/40/18 on my front 18x8.5 wheels be advisable along with 245/40/18 on my rear 18x9.5 wheels?

1 inch difference in the back means that the rear tire will stretch to fill that inch therefore the front tire will look bigger.

This is for an FD? What specific tires?

Tire rack lists a 245/40 as the absolute narrowest tire they recommend for a 9.5 inch wheel.

I'd recommend not basing your decision solely on cost. That's fine for a Civic, not so much for an FD

Basically we are all saying yes it will work, and no you shouldn't have any problems. It might look a little weird being that the back one would be stretched and the front would not be, and also that using a stretched tire for the rear only, might not provide the best handling either.

If you want the stretched look, do it for all 4. In those size rims you have, 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 are the absolute perfect tire sizes you can use for looks and handling purposes.

If you want a good quality cheap high performance tire in the proper size check on tire rack for the Kumho Ecsta SPT in 235 and 265, they got some good prices there. Here is a link of a guy who used the same exact Kumho tires on his FD http://www.carforums.net/cf-rx7.php

I had a friend that would run 255's all around on 17x9 fronts and 17x9.5 rears. His car was track only and he liked the slightly stiffer sidewall in the rear due to the 1/2" extra in wheel width on the same size tire. I believe there is history of one of the top tuners in Japan setting up their race cars in the same way.
