Running different size tires question
Hey,
So I am new to the RX7 world and am working on getting my FD running and it needs a new set of tires. I was going to buy the same sizes as what is on the car but am now worried about the sizes.
Rear is: 265/35/18
Front is: 225/40/18
Is it cool for me to stick to that size or should I get both at 35? Will the tires wear faster because of the different sizing?
Thoughts? suggestions? recommendations?

35 or 40 are the wall height in % of the width which is given in mm.
It will affect comfort mainly if you stay in specs.

im running the EXACT same tire setup, but on 9" widths in front and 11" in back... you should post your widths for best feedback, you might even want to run a different size tire setup depending on your widths...
Sorry for the delay, blew my modem at home and had no internet access. The rear are 11in wide and the fonts look to be 9in maybe 9.5in wide. Hard to measure the fronts due to where the car is standing. So eightsixlife, I am most likely running the same set up and possible widths as you. How do you feel the car rides with that setup?

You won't know the actual width unless there is a stamp on the face of the wheel or on the backside of the center hub, something like 18x9JJ. Either that or you'd have to measure with the tire off the wheel, and subtract one inch.

Well, there was nothing I could see on the Face of the rim. I will take a closer look when I get a chance to get to the car during the daylight. I used a T-square to measure it give or take from the tire and the tire does not really come out over the rim and it measured around the 11in mark. and 9.5in mark.
I mean that current tire set up is on there now. I would hope that the previous owner did not have bad tire sizes on the car. I hope!

Sounds like you're running 8.5s front and 10s rear, but (again) you cant really measure with the tires mounted.....you already know your tire sizes. 225mm and 265mm.

Looking at Tire Rack's site, they recommend the 235/40/18
Never overestimate the previous owner's abilities. Assume they made a mistake and do your research. I've seen too many people screw up their cars that I've seen get it right.
Also try and verify the offset to make sure it will fit w/o rubbing. Running a 225/40/18 is a fair amount smaller diameter than stock and make me wonder if the offset is a bit off and there was some rubbing.
Useful link.

Yes, I bought the same size tires as what was on the car for now. Got a great deal on some Hankook Ventus S1 evo XL. I really needed tires bad, the ones on there looked like slicks already (just without the grip) If I see it will be a issue as I drive it I will be investing in some higher performance tires in the near future for when I powder coat the rims.
