yeah, low profile tires keep your from rolling a tire...
and 205/65R16 doesn't tell us anything about speed... Tires are rated to a certain speed for 4 hours...
tirerack.com has a thang where you can visualize tires on your car...

I wouldn't suggest thinknig that 19s with 35 series tire is going to out perform 17s with a 45-50 series. You guys are just kidding yourselves if you believe bigger wheels is better.

Anything over 17s is pushing it for performance. 18s maybe, but anything above is absolutely crossing the line and should be for show only..

But.. if you're all for show and not so much go, get those 19s!

a race car should not have anything over 18in rims - owner of top secret racing japan

I want 19s on my 8 why b/ its a decent trade and fill out nicely i mean its not a full blown race car.

my miata i had 17s and its my race car and im going down to 16's

actualy i got them off ebay lol. I am very happy with them besides the gunmetal paint is very thin finish so scratch is easy.

well I'd run 15x9 fronts and 15x10 rears if I could get high quality street tires in 265f/285r widths to fit them. thast would be one light weight setup too. the smaller the tire overall diameter the shorter your gearing and the better acceleration you achieve, at the cost of topspeed and that doesnt bother me.

I''d guess your best bet is 16x8 front and 16x9 rears or 17x8 fronts and 17x9 rears, or even 17x10 rears if you run coilovers to fit the wheels inboard enough to clear the fenders.

do you have coilovers? that will effect how wide a tire you can fit in the wheel wells.
do you have a high power motor? you should get as wide a tire as possible if you do... that might mean 17''ers, otherwise you'd be fine with 16x8's out back.
can/would you roll your fender lips? this will give you more roomt o fit a wider tire.
what tires are you looking into buying? some models and mfg'ers tires are wider than others even though the spec/size is the same.

my wheels were cheap enough off ebay... 5zigen fno1rc. I run 17x8f/17x9r with coilovers and its about as big as you can fit without issues, although some guys fit a 275 on a 17x10+25 out back... sick!

You can always run Mustang rims. There's several styles in 17X8 that fit perfectly and you can run them with 225/45/17's or 235/40/17's all around. The 235's might rub up front, but the 225's shouldn't. The GT ones are the lightest according to what I've read (17-20lbs). They're quite common and come up for sale on eBay all the time and you can probably find a set in a local wreckers or for sale on a Mustang forum.

I wrote a whole how to on it a while back.

As for tires, running the stock diameter is best as it'll keep the speedometer reading correctly. Another option is to go smaller, as this will give you better acceleration.

Check the speed rating on the tires, that'll tell you how fast is dangerous, but 110mph on public roads is always dangerous and irresponsible.

I'd reccomend having the same sized tires front and rear unless you have lots of power.
