question about fc suspension upgrades.

i am clueless as to what the suspension parts of the fc are. so my question is what parts should i upgrade in orde to allow wider than stock tires? i am running 225/50/16's now and they tires are a little close to the springs for comfort. what would make that gap wider and improve ride and clearance for future wheel upgrades?

wheel spacers? they would probably do the trick for give you a little more room for your springs, but i dont know about imporving the ride. What kind of springs do you have? if you cut them or have a generic brand that could be affecting your ride comfort. If so invest in a good set of springs and adjustable shocks. do you want to do any thing else to the suspension other than making it ride better?

well handling better would be good as well. i think the springs/shocks are stock and have never been replaced.

if you want to handle better, go for front and rear strut bars, sway bars, polyurethane bushings, etc.

It won't do anything on original suspension. It is like an adjustable damper. With two settings. Frankly you will have one of two options to alleviate the spacing:

Spacer as mentioned
Lower offset wheels

My suggestion is getting new wheels that are wider in the rear allowing for a wider tire.

then of course your bang for buck options are:

KYB AGX
RB Springs
RB Sway Bars

That will do one hell of a trick. Suspension bushings if you have time.

Getting a set of Ground Control springs and threaded perches might give you a little more room in front, since the stock front spring is a pretty large diameter. Changing the offset in the rear should allow you to run pretty wide rims. The rear springs already have a small diameter, so there is a fair amount of room between them and the fender.
Good luck

thanks travis. i will look into that. i had the front tires changed to yokohama db v2 225/60/16 and when the old fronts were taken off i did not see any signs of rubbing. but after the tires were put on my uncle and i took some pretty sharp turns at 80-90 mph and when i got back home i smelled a little burning rubber but i went away after about 30 seconds. i think i am ok for now but if i were to ever autox or constantly take corners and 90mph i will need to do something.

why would you put such wide tires on there? more than 205s on a stock 2nd Gen, to me, is overkill.

Be careful though cause Ground controls can cause you to lose backspacing depending on how far you drop the car.

The FC spring in the front tapers down pretty narrow towards the wheel so it's near the same diameter as the GC's spring perch.
