Do you have larger calipers? Caliper clearance is generally not an issue for FD's.

 

I have stock calipers. I just learned about the term "x factor." I'm told this is the mysterious, crude-to-calculate space that the caliper protrudes horizontally past the flat, stud-laden, outermost point on the rotor. I think I'm on the right track. With my figures, I should have about .5" between the spokes and the caliper on the new wheels. I placed the order, and shall show you all when UPS Christmas comes in about a week! Thank you!!

I used an Eastwood fender roller and just kept applying pressure and it stretched the metal out to a lip, similar to what some Vettes have. Take your time, make sure you have it the same on both sides. Do some finishing with a hammer and dolly, put some filler on top and sand it down to smooth out any dips, etc. Then paint. Not difficult, just time consuming.

I've read through this whole thread and there's been heaps of useful info which is great! I am looking to order a new set of wheels for my FD, however they are only made in 19" sizes.

Ideally I would like to run 19x9.5 front and 19x10.5 rear, but I'm still unsure which offsets to run. I used the wheel/tyre size calculator and found that most offsets would result in the wheel sticking out from the fender.

Realistically, is it difficult to roll the fender and pull it out half an inch front and back? I'm wanting meaty tyres rather than the stretched look. These are the available sizes:

Personally I think the 19's are just too big on the FD. I'm sure many will agree. The only place they would look "right" is maybe on the hella flush stretched looked. I do not approve of such mods :-p but to each their own.

Meaty tires are not possible on a 19". The 17" gets you the meaty look.

18x9.5 +45 and 18x10.5 +42 are about ideal I think. Little if any rolling or pulling is needed. A big tire (295+) in the rear may need the lip rolled flat but certainly not pulled.

 

Just an idea, but share a pic of the wheel you like. I've been in situations where I wanted an item because I loved the look, but something was off- maybe fitment, size, color, etc. Maybe someone on the forum would know of a wheel with similar looks and proper fitment.

 

I do agree, as I said this particular wheel is only available in 19" size. I've got my heart set on it!

And when I said meaty tyres what I meant was I like to have nice wide tyres when viewed from the back. Like 295's on 10.5 rather than 255's stretched on a 10.5. Sidewall is going to be understandably small on a 19" wheel.

They fit! I'm very happy with them. Have Tokico adjustables- just need lowering springs now!

I don't have pics on the ground yet. I'll post some when its out of the garage, on the ground, and I can step back for a better pic. It already has Tociko adjustable shocks, but its not lowered. I'm planning to fit lowering springs for a .8"-1.2" drop.
