Just wondering which pads to replace with. I will be doing some track events but mainly street use. My biggest complaint is the dusting but I relize that comes with the better brake pads. So which work the best with the least amount of dust??

 

I and everyone I know run Black Hawk HP+ pads. A perfect Balance betweenrace pads and street pads

 

HP+ dust & squeal a lot - if you're really mainly on the street, HPS may be better & easier to maintain.

I run Hawk HP+'s also and the dusting isn't that bad..... it is more than stock though... but the increase in braking performance is worth it.

Do search on pads as this was discussed in a lengthier thread that gives other available pads a review and not just the HAWK's. A few guys like the Porterfields also.

The Hawk HP+'s are the way to go. From normal everday driving, the dusting is minimal. After some track use, you'll notice the dusting A LOT. One day at an auto-x ... like a month's worth of buildup. If you're like me and don't get around to washing the car sometimes, you'll just have to spend a little extra time with the wheel cleaner.

HP+'s are also very fair priced these days. Most places I've looked have them for ~$45/pair.

I use the stock '99 Type RS pads fr/rr for road and occasional track use. They hardly dust at all, except when used hard on a race track. On-track they brake VERY WELL for a road pad--not as good as the race-only Porterfield R4Es, mind you--but the Sumitomos do really well (Sumitomo is the OEM for the '99 Type RS pads).

Although they are '99 Type RS pads, they can be used interchangeably with the '93-'95 US-Spec FD Rx7 pads. I recommend using them fr/rr, and not mixing them with US spec stock Mazda pads.

Don't get the HP Plusses. They dust way too much for normal road driving!

Another brand to try are the EBC Green Stuffs. They dust very little on the road. I have not personally tried these on a race track, so I don't know how they would perform under hard use.

Yeah, you'll need to call Mazdaspeed for a price quote. I ordered mine earlier this year. I think they were $150 for the set (fr/rr), or something like that.

I have a set of EBC Green Stuffs very lightly used, but will probably keep them (as you can imagine I go through brake pads like candy)...I've been using the Type RS pads. I think brand new, the EBC Green Stuffs are $100 for the set from Tire Rack?
