Thumbs up Ordered 17x8s and 17x9s for the FC

Ok, I took the plunge and went for the wheels I wanted instead of waiting for some 17x9" F*rd wheels to fall into my lap. I already bought some 17x8" Mustang wheels, but they were a bargain and I can easily get my money out of them. These wheels are supposed to be reasonably light and are actually A-Tech wheels rebranded by America's Tire Co. $112 ea for the 8s and $115 for the 9s. Cheap! What's going to kill most people is the fact that I scored a set of 235/45R17 and 255/40R17 (Supra Turbo OE size) Potenza S-03s with less than 30 days use (customer ride sstisfaction return) for $120. I was in the right place at the right time and helped out a Bridgestone manager with a little internet connectivity problem he was having. So I'll have some good meats for the GTU project. A little fender rolling and we'll be styling! Gotta go put the hurt on the local Porsche club autocrossers!

What offsets did you buy? Do you have coilovers?

28mm on the 17x8s and 17mm on the 17x9s as per the FC wheel fitment thread. My only concern at this point is the front tire rubbing the spring perch. I do not have coilovers yet, but if my RS-R race springs don't ship soon I'll be calling Ground Control. I already have KYB AGX dampers on the shelf.

Hey i ordered those rims but the guy called the warehouse and they told me they are back ordered on the 17x9 17offset for nearly 3months. But the color i chose was bronze but maybe they had the gunmetal in stock? Let me know if you get them because my 17x9 27offset is suppose to come in later today. I

9" wide, +17 in the rears will stick out too much!
Hell, a 9" wide, +17 will fit up front!

The 9" wide, +27 is a better fitment in back.

Aww, crap. I was relying on this post from the FC wheel fitment thread:

17" x 9" +20mm offset (+15 to +30 will work) with 255/40/17 in back

I'm particularly interested in the 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels which I think just match these values.

Note: after further research, I have learned that RETed's wisdom of matching the tire width with the rim width is actually considered a very good theory on handling improvement and is recommended by some guy who wrote some book that I am too lazy to re-research right now. Let's not digress the thread with who it was, but just to say that, yes, it appears to be very solid advice indeed.
So +27 on the rear will fit better. Ok, I'll call the wheel shop and have them change it!

Ok, called America's Tire and changed the rears from 17x9 +17mm to +27mm.

Now I need to get to work on the engine!

Hey i wanted to know if size 18x8 front with a 2 inch lip and 18x9 back with a 3 inch lip, with a 38 offset fit on my Fc. I dont have a wide body kit so was wandering if it would stick out or not.
Thanks.

My 18x8 +38 front with a 225 tire required a 5/16th spacer.Still fits under the fender.

I wish you guys would learn how offsets work and do the math yourself, or even read the pages and pages in the "Official FC Offset Thread", instead of cluttering this place with garbage.

Yeah, I need to change those numbers a bit since they are kinda outdated.

FD rims are 8" wide, +50, and about the tightest you can go in the rears.
Extrapolating to a 9" wide rim, that shifts the offset to about +37.
Now, this is dependent on tire size (width), so adding 10mm off spacing should be able to handle 255, 265 tires no problem.

I redid my Rims page to make it a little bit easier to understand.
I also added a rear clearance table...

I might just do that!

thanks man!

Ted, you need to correct your 10'' fitments... didnt blackFC on fc3s.org run a 275 wide drag radial on 17x10 5zigens with a +35 offset under stock or lightly rolled fenders?

especially look at the difference in offsets between the 9'' and 10'' size on your chart, there should only be a 12mm difference between the two.

nice of you to provide these guys with info, many thanks.

Yeah, you're right - those numbers for the 10" wide rears are supposed to be for a 10.5" wide rim. doh!
I need to change the numbers later...
Thanx for catching that!

We've run 10" +40 with 285/30/18 with stock fenders in rear and about 2 degrees of camber.

I've got the tires mounted and finally got my RS-R race springs. A week ago Sunday I got the dampers and springs changed out. Only the left front damper was doing anything! The other three dampers were so wasted you could move them quite easily the full stroke by hand. I guess this is to be expected from a free 180k mile car.

I test fitted a front wheel and it clears the spring fine, but I may need to roll the fender lip to make sure I have clearance there during suspension compression. Oh, the center cap does not fit! The hub pushed the center cap out as I put the wheel on the hub. This is a racing project so it's not that big a deal to me, but everyone should know if they buy these wheels the center cap won't fit on the front. America's Tire sent me the wrong hub centric rings and I just got the replacements 2 days ago. The car is a project and is currently outside so I didn't mount up more than the one wheel. If you want I can do one side and take some pictures.
