we need to make a graph/chart of things that work and give tire brand, sizes, suspension. etc. OR start by giving the closest you can go to both inner and outer.. Its tough to say what will work and what won't unless we all work together... I think some of us have a good idea of what works but need to clarify things for others that don't know...

The best advise I can give people on the wide wheel fence is simply this... If your not running alot of HP then theres no need to try and fit a 10" wide wheel (extreme example) on the back, etc. A 245 on an 8" wheel will take you along way. If you have 500hp (just a figure) then yes, 275's are gonna be needed OR all that mod'n you did was a waste of time and money... And of course if your just into the wide wheel look, well then thats your deal..

Also, It isn't wise to stretch a narrow tire on a wide wheel, and you will have problems... I get PM'd this once a week... EX: Can I run a 215 or 225 on a 10" wheel?... I'd say thats a BIG no-no! I know the drifters do that, and maybe an experienced drifter can help us understand why? AND its not smart to run a 255 on a 7" wheel, why? well it might roll off the wheel...

So lets kinda start this thread over.

Here is my "extreme" contribution, because I choose to have alot of HP

Enkei RPF1 wheels: 17 x 9.5 +38mm offset w/ Falken RT-615 275-40-17 rear and run a 3mm spacer by choice as they don't rub @ +38mm (now 35mm)
17x 8.5 + 40mm offse w/ Falken RT 615 225-45-17 front

Suspension: Tein RA's coilovers and all Bilstein's w/ Eibach pro-kit.

Tires that fit w/ above wheels: S02, Pilot's, Hoosier-auto's and V-700 Victo's...

Offset: An offset of +35mm will sit closer to the shock than a +27mm. In other words the greater the offset, then closer to the shock it will be...

Hope this all helps...

I agree, however, I figured that if I was going to spend the money on wheels to replace the stock 15x7s, I may as well get some wider ones, especially for the price of these. I personally am all about smaller wheels. I'd much rather stick to a 15 or 16 inch wheel, but if its going to be the same width, I'm not going to spend the money on how the car looks, I've gotta make it run first

Road Race Josh - I'd still love to see some pics whenever you get them mounted up, though the center cap issue kinda turns me away. My plan is for this to be a fun street car that hits the track occasionally, but if they don't look bad, they still may be what I end up with.

Agree on the smaller wheels.. 16 x 10's would be cool.. I think Steve Oblenes ran 16 x 12 or 16 x 13 on his wide body.

BTW: I'm trying to sound like a know-it-all... Not my style.. Just giving suggestions

I have 16x8 on a +25 mm offset on the front and with my coilovers the rim just touches the lower spring perch of the threaded collar. I had to use an addition 7.5 mm spacer to get it out.

Everything is strictly dependant on your specific application.

What tire size are you using? Are you sure the offset is +25mm? with an additional 7.5mm spacer I would think you would have problems contacting the fender unless you are using alot of camber...cheers

I was thinking the samething.... Something doesn't sound right there. Maybe +27mm w/ spacer? thats a thick spacer, hopefully you have longer studs. I'm sure you do.

Ok, pictures...

Here is my '87 Sport with MB Motorsports Weapon wheels from America's Tire Co. (or Discount Tire Direct obviously) in 17x8 +28mm and 17x9 +27mm with slightly used Bridgestone S-03 tires in 235/45R17 and 255/40R17. I got a smokin' deal on the tires as I befriended a manager at a large Bridgestone dealer. I then bought wheels to fit the tires and the budget. I paid $30 for each tire as they were removed from a customer's car under a "30 day you don't like them you don't pay for them" guarantee. The wheels were $112/ea for the 8s and $115/ea for the 9s. Mounting and balancing was $15/ea and valve stems were $3/ea. The grand total came to $646. The car is suspended by brand new RS-R race springs and KYB AGX dampers. There is very little inside the car at the moment so I expect the car to sit lower after the car is complete.

As you can see by the photos a little fender rolling may be needed. Since this is a gutted race toy I don't mind. As I mentioned in a previous posting the front hubs are too large in diameter and stick out too far for the center caps. I may be able to work over the center cap to fit, but I'm not holding my breath. The tires clear the front suspension by a little over 1/4" and the rear tires clear the suspension by miles.

Please excuse the appearance of the car. It hasn't been driven in probably 3 years and needs paint. Once the car is driveable again cosmetics will be addressed.

they look pretty good. the color of the car doesnt really go with the color of the wheels IMO. other than that, not too bad.
