Actually in a perfect world, I would run the wheels with different offsets, so I could have a 17X9 15 -20 offset wheel in front with a 255/40/17 and wide fenders, and then in rear just get it to tuck with a 30-35 offset for a 17X9 wheel w/ 275's. Is this logic right?

 

I would like to use at least a 1/2" or at least 12mm.

I don't think this will fit.
You need at least a +30 offset max to clear the insides.

I don't think the 9" +35 will clear the insides.
We've run a 9" +12, and it fit fine.  I think you can maybe go down to a +20 no problem, but anything more than that is tight.  +35 is just way too much offset for a 9" wide rim up front.

Okay, you've got a base model with 4-bolt hubs, right?

The second one has a little more space due to the +40mm offset.

Either will work.
225/45/17 is the recommended tire size.

Ok I know suspension places a part in all this too what about a set of tokicos ebiac pro kit and I would like to get 17x9's in the rear and maybe 17x8 in the front what is the best combo of tire to rim and offset i should run its been bugging me for weeks. Im looking at the HRE 540's please help!!

 

i had that setup with +38 offset all around and it fit for the most part, it depends on if you have the "buy rims to fit the car" attitude or "mod the car to fit the rims" attitude. Make sure you post pictures of your HREs when you get them.

 

I have done some mathematics to understand.

Setup I'm looking for front
17x8 +25mm or 17x8 +35mm

Stock front rims are 1/2" to 3/4" inside the fender.

Stock rim (16x7 +40mm):

7" * 25.4 mm/inch = 177.8 mm
177.8 mm / 2 = 88.9 mm
88.9 mm + 40 mm = 128.9 mm of backspacing

17x8 rim +35mm:

8" * 25.4 mm/inch = 203.2 mm
203.2 mm / 2 = 101.6 mm
101.6 mm + 35 mm = 136.6 mm of backspacing

The wheel is going to have an extra 7.7 mm (136.6 mm - 128.9 mm) inward than the stock rim.

The wheel is going to have an extra 17.7 mm outward than the stock rim.
To find that I have done:

Stock rim:
Wheel width - backspace
177.8 mm - 128.9 mm = 48.9 mm

17x8 rim +35mm:
Wheel width - backspace
203.2 mm - 136.6 mm = 66.6 mm

Than:
66.6 mm - 48.9 mm = 17.7 mm



17x8 rim +25mm:

8" * 25.4 mm/inch = 203.2 mm
203.2 mm / 2 = 101.6 mm
101.6 mm + 25 mm = 126.6 mm of backspacing

The wheel is going to arrive 2.3 mm (126.6 mm - 128.9 mm) LESS inside than the stock rim.

The wheel is going to have an extra 27.7 mm outward than the stock rim.
To find that I have done:

Stock rim:
Wheel width - backspace
177.8 mm - 128.9 mm = 48.9 mm

17x8 rim +35mm:
Wheel width - backspace
203.2 mm - 126.6 mm = 76.6 mm

Than:
76.6 mm - 48.9 mm = 27.7 mm

I want a setup that will as flush as possible with the fender.

What I don't understand: Stock front rims are 1/2" to 3/4" inside the fender, so between 12.7mm to 19 mm. If the 17x8 +35mm is going to be 17.7mm outer than stock rim. So with the tire, I don't think it will be near flush with the fender. With 17x8 +25mm, it's going to be worst. I guess I have done errors or the mesurement of the fender to stock rim is wrong, because everybody says it's going to fit with both setup.

What do you think ?

 

I have the buy rims to fit the car thing going for me this car is my baby and I would not dress my kid to look retarded now would I.

You can do all the math on the wheel specs, but it comes down to the tire dimensions to give you the final look.

The problem is that tire sizes are all nominal - this means they are not the same.
A 225/45/17 tire from one manufacturer is not going to be identical in specs from another manufacturer, although they are the same 225/45/17 size...

We can only give you offset numbers as a GUIDE.
They are not going to be perfect.

Well ummmmmmm im a fan of Nitto im thinking 555R I have heard good things from them do you have any comments on them with this setup. And by the way thanks for this thread it is helping me alot.

 

Yeah, an 8" wide wheel with +35 offset doesn't work with the numbers, but others have confirmed it does.
If it does fit, it's too tight for my tastes.
With the stock wheels (16" x 7" +40), you still got about 10mm of space between the wheel and inside suspension.
I think this is the reason why you can go with such deep fitments like the 8" wide +35.
I'm still puzzled to see how a 8" wide wheel with a +41 offset can fit up front!

I usually shoot for 8" wide +27 to +28 for fitment up front with a 225 wide tire.
This gives the best look for the front with safe fitment with almost any tire model.

Your 8" wide wheel with +25 offset should give you the flush look you're looking for.

Oh, and those 555R's are pretty straight sidewall, so the +25 offset should look good.

There is a guy who is going to sell me his Work Emotion wheels they are 17inch with Bridgestone Potenza RE01 225/iforget/iforget and +45 offset for the front and 255/iforget/iforget +45offset in the back would these fit my fc at all? because i honestly have no idea on how offset and stuff works i just know i like those wheels.he wants $1750 CDN for them is this a good price?they are in very good condition as well.

O yea, theres more, the rims are 8inch wide in the front and i think 9inch in the back.

 

eibwen, that size is not likely to work. tire size would be good to know, but basically i don't think any tire size for that 8 inch rim would make it fit up front.

 

I doubt it will fit up front unless we're talking about a less than 7" wide wheel.
I've never seen anything thinner than a 17" x 7", so it's not going to fit.

yeah, re-read your post. with a 225 tire up front, that is for sure not going to fit. actually, i don't think any 8 inch at +45 is going to fit...

Wheel diameter doesn't matter.
The rules still apply for 7" wide wheel in front and 9" wide wheel in back.

I like a +35 offset for 7" wide wheel in front.
225 wide tires on this set-up no problem.

I like a +20 to +25 offset for 9" wide wheel in rear.
255 wides tires no problem; 265 wide tires should also fit.

I got my FNO1r-c's in the mail, and they sent me 17x7 215/45/17 (42 off set) and 17x8 235/40/17 (43offset)

Are these ok? Will i need a spacer in the rear?
