anyone have thoughts on a staggered fitment rim on an fc... offsets are

32mm front, 35mm rear
or
38mm front, 35mm rear

sizes are 8.5" in the front and 9.5" in the rear

I have read through a lot of the post on this thread and I have come to the conclusion that I will be getting 17x8 +35 up front and 17x9 +22 (please correct if these won't fit).

My question: What tires do you suggest for this fitment? I like the rolled rear fender look and hate the stretched tire look.

Definitely too tight up front...
I think the rears are too tight, but it might clear.

I still think the 8.0", +35 is too tight up front.
I'll try and get pics of the fitment on the first week of November, if you can wait that long.
The 9.0", +22 will clear everything in the back, but I'm sure you gotta roll the rear fenders to clear.

I'm looking at some 16x7 27et and 16x8 40et

Any opinions on fitment? I have an 88 turbo.

 

17" x 8.0", I'd go 225 / 45 / 17 for safe fitment, but it'll take a 235 / 40 / 17 or 235 / 45 / 17 no problem.
The wider 235 size gives you a little bit more rubber width, and it's becoming a popular size (Ford Mustang Cobra, I think).

For a 17" x 9.0", I like a 255 / 40 / 17 size.
No sense going wider, cause then the stagger sizes get too big front versus rear.

Fronts gonna get tight to the fender well.
With anything wider than 205's, you're going to have to roll the front fenders.

The rears are fine.

Not on a 8.5" wide wheel, unless you're using coilover that allow you to move the lower perch out of the way.

I would stay a maximum of +30.
I've got a 8.0", +33, and I dunno how people can fit anything tighter.

wait... sorry ted, I'm a little confused... you're saying 7 wide +27 is too close to the fender, but recommending 8 wide, +30? 8, +30 is going to sit 9mm or so closer to the fender than a 7, +27... but the 7 is too close? if they're both running the same tire size, then the 7 is going to be closer, yeah... but I'd imagine most people here are giong to try and run a wider tire on the 8... and the 16x7, +27 with a 215 is still going to be farther from the fender than your 17x8 +30, with a 225...

I'm sorry, but some of your suggestions aren't really matching up... just trying to clarify here, as I'm confused... :?

i got 16x8s with 35 offset in the front....tires currently on there are 225/50 and they rub....whats the biggest size i can go so i dont rub?

 

You could just get some spacers?

 

guessing they're rubbing on the strut? how bad? if not bad, you could just do 215/50.... or you could just get like a 3mm spacer...

 

amg ted! i am running 17x8+20 (w.10mm spacer in the fronts with 245/45/17 and all i had to do was roll the fender a bit.

in the rear i have tons of room with 17x8+30, and imo it looks like a sunken battle ship

if i wanted to get a good wheel in 17x8 i would go with a 17x8+15 all around.

 

I have 15" convertible BBS rims on my 89 GXL. I'm currently running stock size 205 60 15. I have the car lowered a bit with Tanabe GF210 springs. I was woundering if I can run a little wider tires on the rims with lower profile? I was thinking 225 50 15... Do you think I will have a problem with rubbing or will the vert rims even support 225 width tires?

And would Falken Azenis be decent all season tires. Where I live it's either dry or rainy, no snow or ice. What's the average mileage Azenis last if DD?

Azenis are not all season tires, they don't work in snow or ice, and aren't very good in the cold. They're fine for wet and dry when it's reasonably warm though, but if the temp drops I'd take them off and put them inside, cold temperatures are bad for summer performance tires.

For daily driving I'd get something different, Azenis are very hard core tires. They'll probably not last 10,000 miles. Many Miata guys run them and many have worn them out well before 10k, although that usually involves autocross, but on the heavier FC, they'll wear faster, I'd be surprised if you got 10k out of them. Besides, they don't come in 225/50/15's, only 205/50/15, which is much shorter and will cause the speedo to be off, but will help acceleration and grip (lower CG).

A bunch of people run 225's on stock wheels, yes, they'll fit on vert wheels, but you might have to run a thin spacer to get them to clear the suspension, probably not, but I have no experiance with that size on stock wheels.

 

I bought some Kumho Ecsta AST 225/50-15 today and when i get them on the car i will take pic's and give feed back. My rims R the 89-90 GXL, GTU 15x6. But this weekend i will gte my vet rims and installed the tires on those.
