My FC turbo current makes around 200 - 250 at the wheels.
The 225 / 50 / 16 is really fun with the car right now.
I would imagine a non-turbo would be just like that.

I'd say no matter what power you should always try to maximize the front contact patch as these cars have a natural tendancy towards understeer due to the stock geometry and the stock springs and sways reinforce that. Maximizing the front tires will lessen the negative effects on the balance that having wide rears will give. It can all be tuned out with suspension tweaks, but in the end that's just reducing the grip on the grippier end to match that on the other end. If I was in need of 245's in the back you'd probably be seeing me rolling fenders to get some 245's on 9" wheels in there.

Remember, it's better to get a stickier, narrower tire/wheel than a less sticky wider one, as it'll be lighter and give better handling, acceleration, braking and ride comfort.
You'd run a 235/245 split on an 8 and 9? or a 235/255 split?

I've noticed this is a size that's getting harder to find nowadays...

The 235 / 45 / 17 size looks to be a lot more common.

Yes yes....we know....us NA guys are slow compared to you turbo guys.....we just make it up by conserving as much momentum as possible around a track as best we can

I would think the power delivery of the turbo and the NA's would be different, and that would impact the way the tires have to handle it, not just in a straight line, but mid-corner and exit acceleration. We don't really have as much of a sudden surge of power like you guys do, though the last turbo FC I drove was a stock S4 TII.

Nope, I'd run equal sizes all around. I'm a true believer in equal tire sizes all around. It's not a Porsche 911 with a big rear weight bias or anything, it's 50/50, so it makes sense to have equal sizes front and rear. Too often people confuse power on oversteer with oversteer and think that the car's "balanced" because they have lots of understeer followed by a lurid powerslide.

There's lots of 200+whp NA cars, mostly at the track though.

will 18x8's (+20) in in the front, and 18x9's (+10) in the rear fit an FC?

if not, what's the min offset I can go on these wheels w/o touching the suspension and not require over fenders? My bias is towards deep dish wheels. Thanks in advance.

I should be fine using 17x8 +42mm (front) and 17x9 +42mm (rear), with a 5mm spacer on each wheel right? Or would I need a 7-10mm spacer? Btw I would be running 225/40 (front) and 255/45 (rear) Kumho Exsta MXs.

puhpaper: Will 18x8's (+20) in in the front, and 18x9's (+10) in the rear fit an FC?

With a roll/mild stretch of the fenders you should be able to fit a 225 wide tire in the front, and a 245 or 255 wide tire in the rear. You'll have lots of clearance to the suspension.

USS CJ: Those would be perfect on 16x7 gabs breh[sic]!

That goes against the trend of putting on too small a tire, shouldn't you be trying to put that on a 18x12 or something?

You'll need a bigger spacer, more like 10mm in front, the rears should be ok with a 5mm one. That should be a 225/45/17 front, and 255/40/17 in the rear, but that's probably just a typo, since they don't offer a 225/40/17 anyway.

Ok I have Work XD-9s 18x8 +35 front 18x9 +38 rear

The Rear Fits nicely with a 275/35/18
The Front is awfull with a 255/40/18

If i get a 225/40or35/18 for the front it will fit perfict right?
Im pritty slamed with Tien Drift spec coils
On a side note with the 18s on it im not sure if i like it, it kinda looks like a donk mobile but im use too looking at 15s on it

then im looking to get 17/8 +35 17x9 +38 and was wondering what size tires I have to run a prity fat tire because I have 340 to the wheels and 330 torq (ls1 swap) the car is a AutoX/Track car and some drift, that I would like to keep streetable for those nice days.

I was going to keep the 275 for the rear but if i could run a 285 that would be nice, But the Front baffles me.

Then for fun im looking at a 15x8 all around with a Zero offset any comments about this? there only 320$ for a set
I dont like the Streched tire look so Pleas help,

this has put me in a bad mood for 2 weeks. trying to figure this stuff out Give me a car that needs wiring, body and fab work done and no prob, But when it come to wheel/tire fitment Im lost! ha

Thanks a bunch

A 225/40/18 should fit up front.

As for a 17x8/9 combo I'd run a 225/45/17 on the front and a 255/40/17 on the rear. You could run a 275/40/17, but you should really get a wider wheel at that point. You can probably get up to a 245/40/17 in front if you go for a lower offset and roll your fenders and that'll help with your grip for autocross/track days.

15x8 zero offset won't work unless you get wide fenders, or run a skinny tire and stretch the fenders and stretch them in back along with a 225 or so. If you want to run that size then closer to a 30mm offset is better, and then a good 225/50/15 or 225/45/15 is about the only choice.

Yeah Thats What I thought About the 15's no big deal to me just thought it would be cool to have JDM style rims but then i rememberd I hate that look. haha

the 275 fits realy good on the 9inch 18. I was told from tire rack that I could fit a 295 on a 9 ich rim not on the RX of coarse but in general.

I have read every page of the thread and all the others on this site so ive done my homework and im still lost.

Oh and there was a thread about cheap steel rims and where to get them and I cant find it any more. I think the guy with this car was telling where to get them with the right offsets.

My point about the wider rims is that a 225 sits quite squarely on an 8" wheel, a 275 is 50mm (2") wider and to get it to look similarly to the front and to get the most performance out of it a 10" wheel will be better.

That's an EP car, they use 23x9x15 (Goodyear) or 23x9.5x15 (Hoosier) cantilever bias ply slicks typically. They're about 10.5" wide and mount on 15x7's, usually zero offset with a ~2" widebody all around. There's really not much selection of good tire sizes for a 15x9, they'll be a bit stretched in either direction for the most part.

Those steel wheels will be heavy, I think the lightest I've seen is some Bassett wheels that were 15lbs for a 15x7 and they weren't nearly as cheap as the 25lb ones you can get for really cheap from Diamond or somewhere like that. You can get some Spin Werkes aluminum wheels from Racer Parts Wholesale in lots of 15" sizes, but they're more expensive again, but not nearly as bad as some custom made ones from Kodiak or some place like that.

A good option in a 15x8 is some 40mm offset Rota Slipstreams with some spacers, $550 shipped for a set, black only though, but about 14lbs. 18racing.com sells them, but they're a special order batch production thing, so if they don't have any right now it might be a while. I use them as my track wheels with some 225/50/15 R compound tires.

You probably should go crazy if you plan to run SCCA.....chances are you'll probably be in either Prepared or Modified.....and I'm not talking about SM or SP.

In autocross you'll be in DMod or something like that. In anything lower down you need a Mazda engine IIRC. In road racing with the SCCA I think you're basically limited to SPO. With NASA you'd probably be in SU or something like that. No matter what class it'd take shed loads of cash to make you competetive on a national scale, but if you're just out to have fun then that's not so much of a problem.

The 275 will perform better on the 10" wheel.

Ok Cool you guys thanks for the Info,
I think what im going to do is buy 2 225/35or 40/18's tires for my WORKS for in the front So I hope They fit! With me keeping it low.
Then in the long run just buy 12 Steels from Diamondracingwheels and slicks for rain, roadracing, and autoX. I kow they will be heavy but there cheep.

Thanks

can't start a new thread since this is related to tires and wheel. So I have a question, I have a set of wheels with 16x8 and 16x9 and base on the f3cs.org wheel fitment, I like the tire size on these wheels. My question is what cause this http://images.eurotuner.com/featured...Wheel_Poke.jpg and is that tire being stretch? and would 215/40/16 front and 225/40/16 will give it a good look.

I assume 215 is fine with stock fender and doesn't require any rollling, correct?

It all depends on the offset. A good offset 16x8 can fit 245's under rolled front fenders, but a bad offset won't fit any tire at all due to contact with the suspension (too high) or contact with the fender (too low).

Yes, that tire pictured is stretched a fair bit, but a 215 and 225 won't be too bad, but the sizes you list are much shorter than stock. You might as well do a 225/50/16 in front and 245/45/16 in the back if you can fit them with the offsets you've got.

so, CarzArKoo1, you want to get some fitment on an FC that is similar to that picture?
it sounds like you have it figured out pretty well with those tire and wheel sizes.

I ran a 235 on an 8" wheel up front with a +35 offset and it was square on the wheel (no stretch) and fit in the wheel well with a few mm to spare on each side. if youre wheels are close to +35 and you run a 215 tire, you will not be poking out but you will at least have the stretch you want. if your wheels are more like a +25 or +20 offset then you will fet the "flush fitment" in all 3-dimensions... width and fender clearance in upward and outward motions... if that makes any sense.

(and I love a good 16x8 and 16x9 setup on an FC, that makes for a nimble car on tires like what an S2000 comes with stock)

You should be able to fit up to a 225 in front and 245 in the rear with those offsets/widths. The sizes you list are much shorter than the stock tires, which will throw the speedo off and hurt milage on a street car, but it does give a gearing advantage and a lower center of gravity which is good if it's for autocross or track use. I think it'll also look a little funny on a street car to have tires that small in the wheel wells.

I'd reccomend a 225/50/16 and a 245/45/16 on those wheels.
