Black91na, the keyword in this thread is "fitment." Not "TIRE fitment." Not "wheel fitment for daily driving the city." NOT "wheel fitment according to the crackbaby black91na's judgement." Oh, and you obviously don't understand the battleship part, nor the part about a wheel being flush so get the hell out of this thread unless you want to learn.

wait this thread is about wheel fitment? I thought i found this thread in the lounge -_-

anyways, anyone have a picture of 255/45/17s on a 8" wide rim on the rears? I need tires for my rears and don't know if I should go with 245s or 255s. just a daily driver. nothing special. thoughts please. no flaming necessary here

255 / 45 / 17 is a little too tall.
255 / *40* / 17 is the proper +1 fitment.

you have to keep in mind though that cars are made to actually move... that's what wheels are for, correct? Therefore if the wheels/tires you put on your car hinder that fact, they would in fact, be the wrong size and wouldn't fit. Bizarre concepts right?

so yes, as you so nicely pointed out the keyword isn't any of those multiple word statements... but in fact fitment. I suggest you look into it.


oh, and I think it also really strengthens your argument by calling everyone rediculos names like a middle schooler. keep that up!

255s on an 8" rim is a little big, I would probably suggest 245s or even 235s.

okay for the anti-dorfito anti-stretch dudes, here, this should cheer you up.

-295/30r18 rear 18x10 +24
-285/30r18 front 18x10 +24 and 14mm spacer resulting in an effective +10 offset to clear the suspension (tein flex)
-tripoint front fenders and 30mm rear fenders
-I have some room to spare and noticed that you can easily fit the same rear 295 tire on an 11" wheel under those 30mm rear fenders.
-295's out back on the street is a LOT of fun!
-yeah, it needs paint, no ****, thats what winter in NY is for

Here is what I have so far:

17 X 8 +35 for the fronts
17 X 9.5 +35 for the rears
GC coil overs

Based on my searching, I believe I can fit the following:
235/40/17 fronts
275/40/17 rears

Is this correct? I don't have any problems rolling the fenders

Also, just found out that the Kuhmo MX don't come in 235/40/17

I don't think 235s would fit, and you would want a 45 aspect ratio, so 225/45/17 for F

I'm not sure 275s would fit either, they might with the GCs, but you might have to roll your fenders. it'll be close.

I have 17x10s +35 with 255s on mine and it fits like this:

but your car is super high, once you lower it the suspension geometry pulls the wheel inboard and once you roll the lip flat you will have plenty of room.

nice setup.

just buy the 45 series, its still a very short tire, 45series on a 235 is great when matched with the 40 series 275 on the rear.

Ummm, you do know that wheels and tires are a system and need to be looked at together and not seperately right? I understand the desire not to have the wheels look sunken in (ie. flush), but there's a difference between funtionally flush and having the wheels stick out past the fenders where they'll hit and rub, which is what seems to be the drift boys defenition of "flush".

I've said it before and I'll say it again, lets please keep things civil around here, no need for name calling, besides, when someone resorts to name calling it's a sure sign that they're loosing the argument because they have nothing constructive to say that'll help their case, so they lash out at their opponent.

the second number is aspect ratio which is a percentage of the first number.

so if you increase the first number (width) you need to decrease the second number to have the same sidewall height.

nah man it would look perfect.

the "series" is the sidewall height and that is derived as a percentage of the width.

so a 275/40 will be taller than a 275/30

but a 255/45 might be just the same outside diamter as a 275/40

and a 235/50 might be the same o.d. as both the 255/45 and 275/40.

if you look over a mfg'ers spec sheet (dimensional data) for a tire you will see what I am talking about and how the numbers all work out.

you dont want a 25" o.d. tire up front and a 27" tire out back unless you want the jacked up chevy nova look, ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

The 255 / 45 / 17 is actually 1.5% taller than the 275 / 40 / 17.
The 275 / 40 / 17 is actually the "shortest" of the bunch...

thats a great chart and all, but its just calculations on paper.

mfg'ers have charts of actual dimensions so people dont have to guess.

if you want to know what the tire model and size you are about to buy actualyl measures out to be, then check on tirerack or the mfg'ers site for actual dimensions, because tires differ immensely between models even if they are the same size on the label.

1.5% is not much compared taller to how small a 255/40 would be, correct?

I love how all these young drifter punks think that they know more about tires or think that they know better than the companies that BUILT the tires and the teams of Engineers who DESINED them with a combined experience that would span millenia with hundreds or thousands of hours of TESTING going into the tires.

The only real argument for it is that it's for better feel and control, I challenge anyone whose ever driven my car to say that the steering is anything but instantly responsive with lots of feedback and control and I'm using tires on wheels that are within the manufacturers specs (225/45/17's on 17x8 wheels). The chassis is communicative and the handling is precise and immediate.

Just face it, you do it for "style", but the only people who think it's cool are those doing it, everyone else is pointing and laughing.

I love how you all think that us 'young drift punks' think that we know more about tires than anyone else. we don't, we simply just don't care. we try stuff, and if it works, than we do it. if we stretch a tire and if falls off the wheel, are we going to do it again? probably not, but thats not happening. the fact is we're doing what we're doing because it works for us, not because we think its better, or anything else.

Yeah, that's why it's a nominal measurement chart...

I wasn't about to go list every single tire model and the actual tire spec!

1.5% isn't that much.
I was told up to 5% is "okay".

I admit, it's just a reccomendation, and going maybe 1" to either end isn't the end of the world, but when we're taking about 3" or so then that's rediculous.

Going that far outside the reccomendations of the comanies IS saying that you think you know better than they do, or that you think they don't know what they're talking about. I don't care how you rationalize it or whatever you tell yourselves, but you're told one thing by the experts, then you do something else in spite of it, you're saying exactly that with your actions.
