Unhappy Need new rack and pinion, Help!

I need a new rack and pinion for my FD3S, the rack was stripped during transport while truck jackkniffed.

What's involved in replaceing rack?
How much disassembly is required?
(1) dealer new rack is $1800 installed
(2) ebay refurbished rack $179, I install
Which is the best option?

Thanks!

Another option, Maval will rebuild yours for $259. Of course it is higher than the EBAY option, but I am not familiar with the refurbisher.

Thanks books! I'll check Maval out.
Do you know what's involved in removing the old rack?

Check the Factory Service Manual. You can download from the threads stickied in the 3rd gen forum. I personally don't know how much work is involved but it doesn't look too terrible. It will depend on your comfort with working on the car. Another option is having a regular mechanic do it or a suspension shop.
