widest tire for 18x8.5

I'm looking for tires for my new rims. The rim size is 18x8.5 with 50mm offset. I have coilover on my car. I couldn't decide if i should go with 245 35 18 or i can go wider like 265 35 18. Thanks

I doubt you can do a 265 tire.

You MIGHT get away with a 255 tire but if you look at some tires, they recommend you do NOT mount on a 8.5 wheel so you might have to do a 245.

There are alot of mustang guys that run as wide as 285's on a 9" wheel however its a 17 inch wheel and diameter matters.

Since you are running 18s, i think 255 is the widest.

245/35-18. I'm running that size up front on an 8.5" wide wheel. It's the closest to stock size you're going to get.

255 / 35 /18 is actually closer to stock diameter than 245 / 35 / 18

I'd try 255. In fact, I just ordered 255s on my 18x8.5 inch rims from tire rack. I guess they'll call me if they don't fit but I think they'll be fine.

I run 245 width tires on my stock FD rims

Oops, thanks.

The 245/35 is 0.11 inches shorter
The 255/35 is 0.17 inches taller

When I was sizing I didn't want to go shorter (dunno why) and had it in my head that 255/35 was closest size to stock.

Tirerack suggested 245s on an 8.5 inch wide rim, so I think a 255 should fit fine. But I guess only one way to find out. The actual tire model & brand matters too.
