A 350Z with street tires took fastest time of the day until a race tire miata beat him? This past weekend a 350Z on Kumho V710's all around with adjustable shocks was around 30th or so and he was a national level driver. I need to come to your club if I can get top time of the day in my SM2 Miata without even having to switch my Toyo T1-S to Kumho V710's lol. Save me from having to trailer or bringing my R compound tires with me. I would hope a 350Z on street tires would get more than "nipped" by a 300+HP prepared Miata. Heck my 2nd event ever driving in I hopped in a well sorted SM2 RX-7 and nothing on street tires was even close to me and it was like my 20th run at an autocross ever in my life. Just because a car gets pulled in a trailer to a Solo II event doesn't mean its a trailer queen. I trailer my SM2 Miata to events just because I don't feel like getting there 30 minutes earlier to switch the tires out even though its my daily driver as is the same with a lot of stock class cars get towed to events but are far from trailer queens.

Are you sure it was the MX (and not a 711 or 712)? Were they cold?

I actually do believe the MX is a pretty decent tire, and I am surprised that your experience was that bad.

Costco member?

I was pricing out a set of T1S locally from the local tire shop that supposedly has a "sale".
Boy, I almost fell on the floor when he told me $830.xx for a set of four 225/50/16 with full service!
I told him to stick it up his...

Just for kicks, I checked the Costco website http://www.costco.com/
They have S03's (Z-rated, non-PP's?) with a $100 rebate if you buy a set of four.
$189 for 225/50/16 for FULL SERVICE, with no bullshit shipping fees.
That makes it about $700 for a set of S03's full service from your local Costco dealer after the rebate.
Tire Rack has them listed at $173 (W rated, PP) currently, but you still need to pay for shipping and then mounting and balancing.
The Costco deal it starting to sound pretty damn good right now...

Try some online shops, too:
http://tirerack.com (<-- has Kumho)
http://www.vulcantire.com (<-- I ordered my Azenis tires from here, also has Kumho)
http://onlinetires.com (<-- has Kumho, Toyo)

they were the MX, 285/35 i believe. the ambient temp was around 65, don't get me wrong, for Kuhmo they actual tire itself was very attractive, it just didn't give any traction for my setup, but it might for yours.
