question...if the FALKEN AZENIS are such great tires(my little bro just bought a set for the crx) why the hell havent they put them in real sizes for RWD cars? all sizes i see are for FWD. for the price i would love to have them on my car

what the? you cant fit 4 tires in a FD? i can fit 4 in my FC
3 in the hatch, 1 in the passenger seat with a lot of towels.
When in school in my apt in kingston i share a house with 4 other students.
I keep a stack of 4 wheels and tires in the corner of my room.

As if the FD doesn't make enough other misc noises?
I run the A032Rs and I wouldn't even think about going back to the regular superduper high max performance tires. The other other tires that I'd consider buying are the Falken Azenis. As for the A032Rs I think they are insanely grippy, doesn't harshen the ride (at least for me, maybe I have higher tolerance) and the thread pattern looks awesome.
I've had S-03s before and they were absolutely nothing compared to the Yokos......
Just my opinions........

Technically, I could get a trailer but I'd have to pay something like $200 a month to rent an extra parking space for it. F that.
Also, the wheels I have on the car now (I got them used) came with AO32R's with not much tread on them, but I did get maybe 1000 miles before they were done. They did sound like mudders compared to the RE71's and RA1's, even with minimal tread. I think the RA1's are just as sticky and long lasting. my .02

I rather doubt you could get 17" wheels w/ the tires sizes I use in an FD.... and if you did, nothing else would go in there... i bring alot of other stuff to the track.

It'd be awful tight. One 245/45 16 fits perfectly in the back. One slides behind the passenger seat and the other two go in the passenger seat. Like that, you can't see out the right side mirror. Definitely not fun. With your 17's, diameter-wise it would still be okay. Just not sure about the section widths.

I'm considering BFG G-Force KDs as my next tires. Size will be 255/40-17. Overall diameter is 25 inches. Section width is 10.2 measured on a 9-inch wide rim (Tire Rack specs).
I realize the BFG G-Force KDs are asymmetric and directional, which means, I will carry two spares to the track (L & R tires). Luckily I just bought a nice new spare SSR Integral A2 form turbojeff (Yes I now have SIX SSR IA2s in 9 x 17, 45-mm offset LOL )
Tire Rack has 255/40-17 on special for $211 each.
My question is how grippy are these tires? I've read rave reviews from other car owners, but no FD owners seem to have this tire?
How are the KDs on the street? Are they noisey? Rough-riding?
I'm picking the KDs because of their high treadblock to void ratio (meaning much more rubber than void) to mate with the racing surface
All opinions are welcome.

A. I really don't want to get into alot of "track-only" equipment. Its a slippery slope, and if i wanted a stripped, trailered car on slicks, i'll buy a formula ford. This is a street car. I think its silly to build a production-based race car if you don't have to
B. I don't have any place to store a track trailer, so for far away tracks like WGI, i need to run on the same wheels i track.
C. My car is set up for the staggered 17" wheel setup i run, and therefor won't be right w/ a stock wheel config, and two sets of lightweight aftermarket wheels is expensive.
KDs are expenive, but IF they are lightweight and the stickiest of the bunch then they are worth considering
As are the RA1s as Scot suggested...

Another scenario, you want to take your car to some far away place to have repairs done on your car and don't have a ride home. Just trailer it there.
One of my fears is, as DamonB says, you get a nail in your track tires that you're driving to the event on. Goodbye weekend. Even if you get it repaired, I would never trust it on the track again.
With a car trailer, your car is prepared and ready to go when you arrive at the track. No more "Chinese fire drills" changing out your track only brake pads before and after the event.
If you don't want to trailer, be happy with a good street tire, as they are the probably best for your situation. Be prepared for the move to R-compound tires though, because after you see others with more grip on the track, you'll want them too.

What's sweet is when you pass R-compound tire-shod cars at open track events. In the paddock the slower drivers (with R-compound tires) find out you're on street tires. Big Grin!

No fun in beating people you already know are not very good; no matter what they drive. There's no meaning in the win if the rest of them suck

Luckily I'm involved in open track where there are no winners or losers, only fun times. FWIW, the group I run in, is composed of really good drivers (instructors and club racers)...
