My New FD Evo X Brakes project on 17" wheels

Ok here is the deal,
Im from Chile South America , so I have to imports everything from the USA to make this possible.

Even thou I made it and Im F happy about it.

I have the 5zigen wheels that have a extra space for big callipers.

I bought some evo 4 to 9 front used calipers on ebay. then project Mu brake pads and Evo X Racing brakes rotors 348mm.

One pic , explain more than a thou words , so here we go....

Looks like its not a big deal , but i spend a lots of hours design and measuring and dealing with the brackets , actually I made 4 of them , from aviation aluminium.

Still the wheels get very tight in the inside spokes , so i get some material off the calipers , to make them fit.

Now i have everything installed and the right wheel sound a little big when i turn hard to the left , so i have to take a little bit more from the caliper , but at the outside is so could that i cant (-1 celcius).

I just want to share this info cause I spend more than $1600 without knowing if they will fit , but they fit!!!!!!! So i can't be more happy with this project.

248mm rotors on 17" wheels on my fd!!! 4 pistons brembo calipers

I'd like to see this.... evo x brakes usually require 18" wheels. the evo 8-9 can run 17" but the drop center on most wheels require you to run 18s on this set up. Unless you run a spacer so that the drop center is pushed out past the caliper

No spacers.

I think that probably cause the wheel have a lot of space for calipers , even thou they fit but very very tight.

Of course , that's why i made it bullet proof!!

I have installed so many AP Kits, Brembo , Project Mu , Wilwood etc etc etc.

And I made the brakets even more bigger and stronger , believe me that it was not a easy job.

Im 100% sure that they will perform excelent.

Just a little more than i was looking for , for my goal is 400whp , and i need to stop that on the track....

By the way love your sticker!!!!

Thats what i was wondering , why did you abandon the project ?

I was measuring like for a month everything and then just then i started buying the parts , even when I was not 100% sure that it will work, and i can say , they only fit with the Evo X rotors , one mm less and you hit the A arm and one more and you hit the wheel.

What mods are required to make this work?

Just a caliper off-set bracket? Will you sell these brackets and let us deal with sourcing the X parts?

Great fab work!

You need evo 4 to 9 calipers
Evo 10 rotors
You have to open the center hole of the rotors and take them to the Fd rotor hole size
The callipers need to be milled in the inside so they can work with the bigger rotors
And you need to build or made the braket
Plus i made the brakes tubes from the calliper to the oem mazda brake hose
You have to take the tube that connect one side of the caliper with the other and put it on the bleeders of the other side caliper and vice versa.
The braket is quite tricky it take me a while to decing it
I made it from aeronautical aluminium and i bridge port them to get them into the wheel hub.
The magical number is 4mm
Is the distance that it have to had from the wheel hub and the mount of the brembo caliper

Did you consider using a 5mm spacer before grinding on the calipers?

That's what I did to fit 17x9 +38 Enkie RPF1's over the Wilwood calipers on my car.

Yes i consider that , but the wheels are already very close to the fenders and I don't want to change the fenders, I like the OEM look at the outside.

The Wilwood calipers are thiner than the Brembo ones

Which is the rotors diameter on the Wilwood ones that you install in you car?

You do great work, but from the pictures you posted, those calipers are no where near what is considered "safe" clearance from the wheel.

They should work fine, but i will test them on the track to be 100% sure. Hope so

Hey it's your ***, but generally the MINIMUM safe clearance is 3mm. So you have 3 to go. I definitely wouldn't track that.

Have you figured out how this will affect the balance of the brakes on the car?

Anyone who tells you that it's ok to track with the calipers that close to the wheel spokes has never been on a track.

Depends of the track isnt it?

I have been there many times and of course i will get more clearence to the wheels and calipers thats why i will post some new pics with more clearence.
Im more worrye now about the disk and rotors combination
I got Project Mu brake pads and RacingBrakes rotors

I have to test this a lot till i try it harder and harder
