How did you decide it's not enough stopping power?

plus i'd like to do something different and if everything works out well this could be a great cost effective alternative to getting Gran Turismos or stop-techs or somthin
I hope you did the piston calculations. If you didn't, there is a good chance the car won't stop or it will spin out.

I think there's "can you do it?" and "would you want to do it?".

You can get a nice StopTech kit, ready to bolt on and go for under $2k brand new, used for less.

I've noticed over the years, that the top three mods everyone can't seem to stomach the cost of are intercoolers, big brakes, and coilovers. I've been guilt of it myself at some points. Everyone wants to custom engineer something, or find a magic deal that doesn't cost what is costs... and yet they are all SO important to the function of the car.

I probably would have put it in this section too. All those subsections overlap. Technically it's 3rd gen specific, but is also regarding brakes. This is where it gets the most exposure. Hardly anyone goes to those subsections. I know i rarely do. I also don't see why people are being so hard on him. Granted people suggested one thing and he decided something else, but it's his choice and trying new things is commendable in my mind. If it turns out terrible i'm sure he will figure that out safely on a long flat road with no traffic, before attempting to track the car. Then we can all learn from his experience. Maybe he will lose some time but he can always resell the brakes if it doesn't work out.

ok guys i've been looking through and researching since everyone has put their thoughts into it and i have to say i would have made a pretty big mistake by just going with stock evo setups because they are not cost effective. they would work properly but by piecing together another system, i could get more bang for my buck

so heres the new plan
i did the calculations with one of my buddies from the engineering department at fiu and also found that the BBK kit from brembo with the 6 piston caliper does not require any changes in the master cylinder nor does it require a proportioning valve

next we went out and started researching calipers, turns out that the 6 pot brake calipers of the gran turismo bbk kit from brembo are the same as the oem caliper from the Lexus ISF, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Mercedes AMG models with the branded AMG calipers, and the BMW 135i

so i got a really good deal on some ISF calipers and ended up spending right around $575 on those

the next issue was what rotor will fit the the calipers, obviously the the 14.2 inch rotors from the ISF have the same bolt pattern as the FD so those would be choice...but they are $900 for a pair :S

so i was like forget that lol

i found that the rotors from the G37s with the OEM big brake kit are 14 inches and more importantly they are 33mm thick, and the rotors that Lexus uses in the ISF are 30 mm thick, so thats pretty damn close and the best part is a set of g37s slotted rotors from stoptech is about $250 bucks, and if the extra 3mms on the g37 rotors doesnt fit the ISF caliper i can always get 1.5 mm machined off of the each face, i'd rather not do that though

so this set up will be pretty much just like the 6 pot Gran Turismo BBK kit, but i'm sacrificing the 2 piece drilled rotors from brembo for one piece slotted stoptech rotors, but hey im doing my kit for just about 900 bucks so i can live with that lol

so i found the solution to the caliper and rotor issues...next i have to make sure that the rotors of the g37 fit properly on the rx7, and then i will have the braket cut out in a water jet

please keep throwing out thoughts and concerns guys cus i dont want to overlook something

i'll keep you guys posted

Are you upgrading the front brakes only? I'd imagine the bias would be shifted forward somewhat if that was the case.

I don't know what it's like on the G37, but on the FC a rotor is worn out when it has 2mm of total wear on it, so you're talking about possibly more than wearing out a rotor before you ever use it. You'd be better off to make the caliper fit the rotor and shave that 1.5mm off each brake pad.

I did some searching and it seems that the EVO calipers have 40mm and 46mm pistons, so much bigger than the stock FD pistons and will throw the brake bias way off (towards the front).
