84 Front Bushings?
Hi everybody,
I am a noob here but not to working and tuning cars. I just picked up my "new" car this weekend, an 84 GSL-SE and the steering has a little play in it and the previous owner told me that I needed to replace the steering/sway bar bushings.
I have been looking around online and I am not 100% sure which bushings these are.
Can someone steer (no PUN intended) in the right direction?
(ok, maybe it was intended)
Thanks,
Rob

its an old car......
it will need all the bushings replaced.
But for starters, the sway bar bushings and the steering linkage should be looked at. And possibly the adjustment on the steering box.
Over time the linkage will wear out and you'll get "wonder steer"... which is dangerous.
Scrolll down these links and you'll find some of the steering parts

here are the front suspension bushings.

Rubber bushings tend to be the most compliant among normal drivers who are not looking for a performance feel for our cars, but the polyurethane bushings offer the best of both worlds. nice and tight, and they stay hard, whereas for rubber it will get softer and softer over time
If you done yet have an FSM.... buy one from Mazda ($60+) or download one(for free)

Hey thanks,
Yeah I am going to put it up on the jack stands tomorrow night and see what is loose. The car is in impeccable shape. Only 75,xxx miles on it and it was a one owner car. I even have every single service record for the car along with the warranty cards and owners manual.
My other car is a Scion tC that is modded pretty well and I previously had a 1990 Accord that I did an engine swap in and that car was heavily performance modded.
I want the sharpness of the Energy Suspension Bushings so I think I will go with them.
I got a service manual with the car so I think I should be good.
Thanks again!

When it comes time to purchase bushings, you should take a look at www.re-speed.com
They hang out in this forum, and listen to what we want, then get it for us. Great people to deal with, and the best performance suspension parts you can find.
And here is a good discussion on replacing front end bushings, and tightening the steering box: https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=785410
Good luck.

Thanks, I will keep them in mind. I was looking at the records and the linkage was replaced at 54,xxx miles so I do believe it is the bushings. I will most likely order some this weekend.
I was reading about installing these bushings and it seems like a real nightmare. I think I might take it to my mechanic to get them swapped out.
