Kumho's anyone?
Does anyone have any opinions on the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's? I was considering these for my next set on my 1993... cheap and good handling is what I hear... don't really want to pay 190 for S03's...
712's have soft sidewalls, they're not that great. I preferred the Bridgestone RE740's on my Subaru vs. Kumho 712.
From what I've heard, Sumitomo HTR's are better than the 712's for that price.

RX 4 Speed,
If you will only be doing driving on normal streets, the Yokohama AVS ES100 is in the same price range and a more popular tire. Here is a link to some test on the 712's, Sumitomo and Yokohama:

If you plan to do any track driving, you might spend the extra bucks for some Bridgestone RE750's or maybe the Kumho MX.
Alright guys... thanks for all the advice. You guys rock. I went and looked at the Yokes vs the Kumhos... both in the same price range. I was just looking to drive them on the street, and save the track driving for later for some other tires. I went ahead and got the 712's, since I also heard from other folks that the ES100's were okay and comparable to the Kumho's, so I went ahead and got the cheaper Kumho's. I put about 50 miles on them so far, and I like them. I had S02's on them before, so they're no S02's, but they're not bad... you can't beat the price. I took 'em on several S roads, and they hold pretty well. A lot quieter and smoother than the S02's, that's for sure.
As far as upgrading to some nice 18 rims and tires, what tires do y'all recommend?
Thanks for the help guys... I appreciate it.

Lemme know if you want another set - barely used ( ~250 miles on them) I can't stand these tires

sweet ride, Section8... I've always liked black cars. I should post a pic of mine too.
What's with y'all hating the Kumho's? Just not enough grip?
When I save enough, I'll get a set of S03's on 18 Kazera... just still my wish list for now though

I had a set of 712's that recently got replaced by ES100's. The Yok's are definitely worth the little extra $$. They grip better, are quieter and ride better. The wear rating is a little lower but if I get within 5k miles of the 35k I got on the Khumos, they are far better IMHO. The Khumos were an upgrade performance-wise from the original tires I had on the car(I didn't put them on) so I didn't know how they would compare to something else until trying. You'll be ok with them until you try something better
