Kumho Ecsta MX?

Anyone running these tires, particulaly on a high hp or single turbo fd? They are priced well and look like they would grip good. I know previous Kumho road tires sucked, with exception of the great race tires they make.

Ihor,

I've talked with several people that run these and all have been pretty impressed... I dunno about "high hp single turbo" guys or not, but the rest of teh world seems to like them...

Don't you need a car that runs before you need tires?

PM enuttage. I got to drive his 380RWHP RX6'd FD on MX's this weekend. They're very sticky for street tires. Lots of lateral grip. Steering response was very good. Now I can see why all the STS/STX guys are raving about these tires.

Best performance tire for the price bar none.
I think the 712's left a lot of people with a sour taste in their mouths. These tires are great on the street, with light track duty. I like the Toyo T1-S's because they are nice and light, but I think these are a better tire for the money.

I was thinking about getting a set of 712's. What left the sour taste in people's mouth? and what does the MX have that the 712's dont?

The MX has a lot more grip than the 712. The 712 is a decent tire, but nothing really special. They are pretty cheap, so that's the draw. We have them on the back of my wife's miata, we'll probably put them on the front too, when the time comes.
I have the MX on my WRX Wagon and am very pleased with the price/performance ratio. They aren't going to last very long. But what Max-Perf. tire will?

yea 712 crashed my friend FD.

MX is good. but when its almost 100 outside and plus on the pavement, and do more than 12 runs of autocross, by 6 you need to start cool them down....

I have 245/46/16 Kumho 712s on my FD now. I'm not impressed. They break free pretty easily, they are OK in the rain nothing special in the wet.

Comparing the 712s to other tires on my old FCs and my previous car - BMW e36. For the streets in my area (NY/Long Island/NJ), I really liked my TOYO T1S which I had on the BMW. They kicked *** like no other in the rain and were very good in dry. I had gone from the M3 spec Michelin tires to the Toyos and loved it. Turn in was not as crisp, but they were pretty damn sticky, grip was good ,but the Michelins were stickier in dry, communication at the limit was great, comfort and noise levels were 100 times better.

I did not like the old BFG Comp TAs on the FC, but I really liked the Dunlop D40/SP8000 on the FC. Not the best in the rain, but nice in the dry and gripped very well at Lime Rock. Good tire life too.

Good luck.

I have them on my fc. 255 rears and 225 fronts.

In the rain at the track I found them to break easly with no warning. Sort of like back in the day when I had battle Axe tires on my FZR.

I have yet to try them on a dry track. Seem to hook up easly enough.

I figure more hp I will need better tires then this. For now it was the best bang for your buck

Dunno if you've purchased these yet or not, but in typically delayed response, I say get 'em. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

The MX has S-03 performance for 2/3 of the price. Go to the Tirerack and look at their roadtest comparos also. The tire did VERY well.

As far as lasting a long time, I'm not sure. I've heard most folks are getting at least 10-12K out of them. I have a feeling they won't last as long as that for me on the rear.

As far as comparing them to the Azenis'...I'm certainly not completely qualified to say, as I haven't owned the Falkens, but I'd say the grip is probably a little less than the Azenis, but the MXs are completely safe in the rain, assuming you're not doing something completely stupid. They tested very well in the wet, and I've had no problems driving them in the rain.

Hope that helps. I say go for it.
