Kumhos tires suck

I just put some 245/45/16 kumho ecsta supra 712 on my fd and they suck ***. Do not buy these for you fd. No traction for ****. The 245 was actually quite thinner than my 225 sp 8000s. Maybe thats why the honda people love them, cheap and can fit in the front. They were free and i slapped on my fd and regret it. But they do do a very smooth burnout, no wheel hop at all. I did a launch at 3k and the tire never had enough traction for me to give it more than half throttle, the tack shot straight to 7k and there was nothing but tire smoke. My sp 8000 were much better and they were half worn. Just my observation. After a few more burn outs i'll might just throw them away.

Worst tires I've ever had. I hated mine. I finally got rid of them and ordered some AO32rs when I spun my car going around a simple corner with very little throtle.
Now Kumoh's track tires are another story, great tires.

Um, they're like <100 bucks apiece... whaddya expect? Add to that a pretty high treadwear rating (hard compound), and that shouldn't be surprising!

If you want decent tires around that price, then check out the Falken Azenis Sports... nice tires, with a treadwear rating of 200...sticky!

What about the kumho MX's anyonr having luck with these. I talked to a supra owner and he loved his. I was thinking about going with them. Too bad Azenis do not come in our size.

Unfortunately the manufacturing of at least the Ecsta 712 isn't consistant. I had two sets of 712s on an old car. The first set gripped great. The second set had me sliding right off the edge of the road. I guess that's what you get with a cheap tire... but they're so unreliable it's dangerous.

I've never heard anything good about the Supra 712's. For about the same price, the Yokohama ES100's are supposed to be pretty darn good. But, the Victoracers (V700's) are a different story ... course, now we're talking about race tires.

My car came with them and I am keeping them to protect my clutch as it is wearing out fast. No chance of me putting much torque onto the clutch with these tires. Another reason I still have them is that I figure after a couple months of driving on them I can get some new tires and it will be like getting a new car. Oh and there is the fact that I have run out of money for the project....

Sumitomo

Has anyone tried the Sumitomo HTR+? They are quiet, shed water very well, and are dirt cheep. I put then on becase I have not decided which 17/18" tires/wheels I wanted and these are a stopgap.

They seem to corner as well as the tires that were on the car when I bought it, but then again, they might have been junk too.

Any opinions.

i recently purchased kumho supra 711's or whateva they are. 255/40/17.

I think quite differently to you's as the grip and traction is all there. 4k launches do give me slight wheel spin, but after that its all traction.

they are not the BEST tyres, but for the $$, im not complaining.

Thanks for sharing this info. I noticed a lot of people have these Kumhos on 18" rims, probly bc they spend tons of money on the rims.

For tires around $100, I think the Yoko A520 offers excellent performance. It's very sticky but noisy.

i have the 712's on my car. they are ok. i get NO traction on the drag strip could only muster a 13.0 @ 118mph. switch to drag radials on 1.5" narrower and 1" smaller stock rims ran 12.0 all day long with same MPH. you get what you pay for with the kumho's..... most people dont' have $1200 to spend on tires on top of $2000 rims.... lol

I am using Kumho Ecsta MX's and they're awsome. I'm not surprised that the 712's would suck, but the Ecsta MX is a completely different tire. Don't judge Kumho's reputation on the Ecsta 712's though, because they do make some other awsome tires. That'd be like saying "I threw some Yokohama Parada's on my car and they suck. I'm never using Yokohama again"

Ecsta 712's suck

I also recently switched from Bridgestone 730's up front to Kumho 712's and I almost crashed my car! The tires don't grip as well at all.

All I can say is that i have learned my lesson. Don't go cheap on tires!
