In my quest to find light weight 17inch rims at a good price, and looks, I thing I've found them:

The 18x8 are 17.8 lbs... and the 17x7.5s are 16 or so.

Dude, what size tires are you gonna be able to put on 8" wide wheels? 235/40/17? That's wimpy looking in my opinion. You have an FD right? You need to get wider tires. Don't flame me, that's just my opinion. FD's are fast but even faster with the right launch

That is one option (235s are whats on the stock rims now)

According to Discount Tire (tires.com) the sizes that fit are 235/45, 255/40, and 265/40. From <A HREF=http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/wheels.html#ORI> Scuderia Ciriani</a>'s site "Stock rims are 16 x 8. Largest fit is generally agreed to be 245/45 which maintains the stock overall diameter."

I will probably go with the 255/40s all the way around... we'll see. I won't go smaller than 235, however.

Tires too make the difference...

This often comes up on the forums as a topic of discussion because of the amount of misinformation floating around. This should help to explain what everything's about.

Tire sizes are normally listed in 3 numbers, such as 235/55/16.

The first number is simply the width of the tire in mm (235 mm).

The second number is sidewall height as a percentage of the width. For instance, in this case, the sidewall is 55% of 235 mm: 129.25 mm.

The third number is the diameter of the wheel (rim) in inches.

So, the important number is the first number, in terms of how wide the tire goes. 255/40's will fit on the Toxxin, I have 235's on my stock rims now, so I have an extra 20 mm (almost an inch) of width... and the 235's look nice on there now.

Don't get toxxins dude, they suck... trust me I had a set.. now getting sold to a eclipse driver, really, just spend the money and get something decent, like a decent set of rpo1's.. toxxins are skinney so they won't look good, and they won't handle well either, plus I heard they recalled them for the clearcoat cracking... but that is just what I heard, but seriously you will be much happier with a little more expensive, little wider wheel and tire..

BTW, I only had them because someone at the wheel shop I was at told me that it was hard to get the right wheel offset for a seven and that nothing bigger than an 8 inch wheel will fit.. Imagine how pissed I was when I saw a seven with tens on the back...

Hell, my 235 16's rub up front sometimes... But the orig shocks are still on. As soon as I get the Bushing set from JimLab, new shocks and springs are going on.

If you are doing an 18, 8 all the way around, I would use a 245/40/18 or 245/45. I don't think the balloon effect will do very good things for your sidewall integrity while cornering. They just don't look right. An 8.5 would be absolute minimum, but a 9" is reccomended.

I agree, go with the RP01's. The Enkei's are just as light as well. Their lightest wheel. I just sold two sets of these and they are reasonably priced with wide fitments. Up to 9" widths. Did you already order the toxxins? Let me know if you need a hookup.

Well, the new wheels and tires are on, and the ride and noise over the Dunlops with stock 16" rims are noticable. I ended up getting 235/40Z17s... On the car, they look like stock width, but off, compared to the old setup, they are wider. Here are some pics:

Your FD looks pretty nice! Really shiny...Zaino?

While looking at your pics I couldn't help thinking I like the look of the FD much more with the stock R1 spoiler. I know some won't agree.
