I just bought some new Koni struts for the 7. My question is: they seem to be three different colors. the two fronts are different from the rears and each other. Is this a normal F up from the factory? Also the paint looks like it was sprayed on by Mrs. Beals first grade class and has chipped off already quite a bit and even more when I put the spring perches on. Is this crap normal as well? You would think for nearly a bill fifty each they would have some half way good coating on them.
Now for the gen3 question I'm going to put the clip on the lowest setting on the body of the strut. Anyone else done this and had any problems? I have aftermarket wheels but the diameter is close to stock however they are a bit wider. Thanks

 

If you using some eiback pro's or some other spring that lowers the car I would put the front shock spring holder on the highest setting and the rear about midway. Koni's are tuff as nails so I wouldn't sweat the paint With stock springs I would go 1/2 way in the front and all the way down in the back.

 

The thin paint situation on the Koni's seems normal, aside the shade differences. I had the same impression.

As for the spring perch locations, if you are using lowering springs, you may find that anything lower than the top most perch setting may be too low for proper suspension travel. (Bottoming out quickly becomes an annoyance and outweighs the coolness of the slammed look)

Experiment. Decide. Re-align.

Fritz do you have any experience with 16 245/45s and the above mentioned setup? Will it rub at the std or medium ride height (front/rear)? I'm going to be installing eibach pros+koni yellows next month. I have 245/45 16 RE71s on stock rims.

 

I have the Raceing Beat linear springs. They are pretty stiff and I'm going to run the Koni's at a fairly hard setting. The car is for weekends only so I'm not concerned with daily comfort. The car looks like it could come down a bit. Does the car lower directly to the setting of the perch?
I think I'm going to repaint the Koni's black anyway but does anyone know if any scratches will rust if I don't?

 

I used to have them with the RB springs. Do not go lower then the middle spring perch in the rear and leave the front at the highest position.

Althought the RB springs are marginally stiffer than stock, the Koni's will never be overpowered by them even at the softest setting... so you it may not be necessary to run them "hard".

oops, i am sick. 102 degrees yesterday. i get tomorrow off of work also. sucks to be sick though, i hate being lazy. ill help you on those shocks this weekend. see its all jasons fault. if he would have sent them out on the week he charged me for them, and not two weeks later we would have had them on the car sooner, and i could be sick without obligations
