Talking JIC Magic Suspension review

I just had my coil overs installed by Ziel Motorsports (these guys are experts on race cars). They are the street version (SF-1's I beleive).

Pro's: Feels like a Go Kart
Con's: Feels like a Go Kart

The car is lowered 1.5", looks cool and you can feel the lowered stance. The handling is rock solid and she launches better! ...but you loose the luxury touring ride. I may lift it back up 1/2". They do however, feel silky smooth over 100mph...I mean 55mph officer

If you have a touring model like I do (or a prissy G/F), spend the extra money for the adjustable FLA-2's! This will get you closer to the R2 feel by adjusting it softer and you get full shock travel. Currently mine feels like an R1, uhg.

I can't compare these to Tien, Apexi, or Blitz because these are the only coil overs i've purchased, but just wanted to give my two bits.

The FLT-A2's are the adjustable ones. THe FLT-2's are not. The SF-1's are the ones that GoRacer got.

By the way, which spring rates did you end up getting. The outside of the box will have two numbers, one for the front and one for the rear.

THE FLT-A2's in stock were 14k and 14k, J-spec setup. The US spec should be either 10,8 or 12,10.

TIA, this will be helpful for assesment of your experience.

Thanks, Rishie

I'm gonna see John in a couple weeks I hope and I'll let you know how mine feel in the widebody FC GT-X. They are 7k, 5k.

what do the springrates mean? I only hear numbers like 700, 150 (stock fc), 300 and stuff like that. my best guess would be lbs to compress it like an inch or something like that.

Standard measurement Spring rates will be in units of lbs/in. Whereas, metric is Kg/mm.

Now, back to school. To do conversions you must remember 2.2lbs/kg and 25.4mm/in.

SO your multiplier is (2.2)(25.4), units cross out, and baddabing = 55.88, just say 56 is the multiplier.

Now just take your metric spring rate and multiply by 56 and you'll have your US standard measurement of the spring rate.

i knew 2.2lbs/kilo (god I watched too much miami vice as a kid ) and 25.4 from learning how to convert tire sizes.
I'll try to remember kg/mm
lemme lay down a fat beat!

I used your multiplier of 56
stock FC (dunno which model)
150=8400

these are just random numbers
300=16800
400=22400
500=28000

Talking woohoo

60mph & climbing on a circular freeway onramp with no sway and no loss of traction... yeehaah!

Rishie: The box says F-10 / R-8

I also installed M2 Toe Links & Trailing Arms at the same time and I have no idea how that effects the ride and/or handling/performance.

When I turn the radio off and listen for bushing clunks, I can actually hear the rear shocks working? ...strange.

Even though my tire/wheel setup isn't the greatest, I felt rubbing/bottoming out when "Allegedly" doing over 100mph.

I think I will wait for the springs to settle, then raise the hight .5" (leaving only 1" drop).

Cool Figured out what was rubbing

Turns out the plastic shield underneath the front is broken and one side is only 1/2" off the ground.

I'm getting used to the rough ride but I think i'll still raise to 1" drop for street. Somebody slap this shi* eatin' grin off my face (LOL).

For the FC, k2rd has a decent coilover kit for $950, front camber plates and a rear camber link adjuster included. It uses KYB AGX adjustables with threaded collars. Not as pretty as the japan-style kits with the true threaded shock body, but way cheaper! I ordered mine last week, should be here soon. FKN summit racing lied to me and said they had my bushing kit in stock when they didn't, so now I gotta order from somwhere else...

Thumbs up 3 week update

The springs have settled and it doesn't seem as harsh as when it was new. I still plan on raising the car but haven't been able to do it yet.

There is only one thing I don't like but I have no idea if all coil overs are the same. I can hear the pistons compressing air in the rear shocks (on bad roads) with the radio off/low and windows closed. It makes me think they are worn out but I can't even push the car down with my hands and John said it's normal. ...does any other brand do that?

Yeah, we get that in the FC's also with the Illuminas. Typical of Gas charged struts. Any other insights? Normal. It's a sports car. hehe. You're supposed to hear everything.

Lightbulb oh ok

It must be the double tube strut cartridges then, since you said Tokico's also does it. So i'd be curious to know if the FL-A2's make the noise also since they are single?
