Interested in new rims, but know nothing

I may be looking for some (first time) wheels, i plan to get some coilovers first when i can afford them and get ride of stock but i know nothing of wheels and am not looking to spends a crazy amount of money. Since im not to sure what colors would look good on a CYM (have black now). Right now i have 17x7(yes i know the owner before me kind of downgraded over stock with the width) and i am thinking about going with 18x8 or 9 up front and 18x9.5 in the rear.

I have no idea what offset would be good to get (again i know nothing of wheels)
and i am not looking for rims with multi spokes like this
(unless it looks really amazing)

something like what i have now with 5 or 6 spoke unless it looks really nice.

Just hoping for some ideas with style/color/offset

^ correct

Just go through the FD wheel fitment thread and see what you like. Everybody also usually posts what their wheel sizes are so you can get an idea of the fitment.

hey been lurking around and found some good info, i dont have microsoft office/excel so i cant view the wheel and tires that was made.

I think i found a set of rims i like with the sizes i want, but now the issue of the offset, it says "Specialized offsets ranging from +20 to +48." not sure which i need. Maybe some one could chime in and help me out a little, 18.8.5 and 18.9.5 is my plan on size.

these are the rims im looking at http://www.xxrwheels.com/xxr_522_19.shtml, maybe cheap but look nice imo

If you want the wheels to be as flush with the fenders as possible, you're going to need offsets in the 20-30 range, but you're also going to have to roll the fenders. If you don't want to touch the fenders, then something around 40+ is what you'll need

The CCW SP500's make for a nice five spoke. Check my gallery for an example. They are a bit expensive though.

My suggestion is, if you like looks, go with a 18x9.5" in the front and a 18x10" in the rear. I run this set up using enkei rpf1 wheels. +45mm front and +38mm rear with 265/35/18 tires. The tires are a little tall for a car thats slammed but works well for me. you will rub the fender liner a little when in full turn.

I also have a second set of wheels which are SSR SP01 5 star wheels in hyper silver? I believe. I have a 18x8.5" front and 18x10" rear....+30mm front and +37mm rear. I wish the fronts were 9.5" and a better offset. they came with the car and are basically new. I would run 245/35/18 front tires and 255/35 or 265/35 rears.

depends on what you want. I don't like the whole "hellaflush" crap and perfer performance over looks which is why I have the enkei rpf01's on right now.

^ agree, i dont care if its flush or not aslong as it helps in the performance area, but im not sure about going 9.5 in the fronts, i think the max in front i would want to run would be 9.. i was thinking 10s in the rear tho would look nice.

coilovers are coming first, but i dont think i will slam it, just drop the rear a little and probably leave the front at stock height unless i change my mind(would have to look at it first)

Spend the extra $$ and get the exact fitment you want. It's worth every penny. Roller your fenders and its good to go. 10.5 fits nicely in the rears, but may sacrifice some dish due to the FD's high offsett, unless you pull fenders or add flare kits. Remember your offsett will determine what you are able to do...

9.5" wide wheels in front are ok as long as you get the right ofset and tyres. If you don't know much about wheel and tyre sizing there is an excel sheet in forum to give you a general idea. I also suggest you go for a tested and proven set-up. Wider wheels just like bigger turbos have one advantage and that is room to grow in the future. If you want to get a wide bodykit or put more power to the ground you can always start with smaller tyres and later go for wider tyres and small spacers instead of needing to change the wheels or thick spacers.

I'd suggest no larger than a 9" wide wheel and a +45 offset for the front. You can fit 255s on that wheel and shouldn't make contact with the fender. Sadly even with this offset at a 25.25" ride height, my pax side wheel sometimes rubs the passenger fender. It was good for years but for some reason it started rubbing 2-3 years ago when pulling into steep driveways.

I wish I would have ordered a squared set-up so I could rotate my tires.

There is a set of 18x10 +50 CCWs for sale on this site that I've been Jonesing over.

you could run a 9.5" wide wheel with the same offset and a 255 tire width......it would have the centering in the wheel well as the 9" wheel.....if he ever wanted to upgrade and roll the fenders for a 285 width tire....he could.

Just MO.
