Inside HKS shocks..

Figured some of you guys might be curious as to what you are paying $2K+ for. I was told by the Nissan owner that his set of 4 cost over $3k! He wasn't too happy when I told him that his pair were too far screwed to rebuild...

This picture shows how they adjust the flow to the valving. These shocks like most of theirs are " 2 " way adjustable, yet they have to be adjusted in unison( damping and compression).

Looking at the markings on the "washer stack", it looks like the fluid was overheated or bad fluid?
Was this on a track car or a street car?

I have never rebuilt any Kei office shocks, but I can take them apart free of charge and find out if I can rebuild them. If I can rebuild them, I'll give you an estimate, or I can just put them back together and ship them back to you. All you have to risk is postage. As soon as I have a set figured out and seals on hand, I can do a complete set in 1 day and have them on their way back to you. On most of the shocks I have to get custom seals made because the manufactorer's don't like people rebuilding them, and a lot of the companies like to get their own certain sizes made so you can't use off the shelf O-rings. For example the O-rings in some of the Koni's are " Koni Size", they aren't metric, they aren't standard. Depending on the complexity of the seals, prices vary from manufactorers. We've also been doing Bilstein, and nitorgen charged shocks off Vipers. We also make shocks into ride height adjustable ones. We just did a set for an F40. I have a Nissan coming into the shop for a turbo and motor build and he has some Tein shocks on his car I might get to service. I am very curious to see if those are a piece of junk, seeing as almost everyone uses those because they aren't pricey...

The fluid was definatly bad. This set came out of Japan, and was run on a few street cars. The real history is unknown. I think these sat on a car in a junkyard overseas for years on end and just corroded. They have obviously never been serviced.
